I am trying to find out some load data for reloading some slugs for a rifled barrel. I have reloaded shotshells , handgun and rifle cartridges for the past 30 years but never would of dreamed of reloading slugs until today. I purchased a qty of 25 Brenneke slugs for the mear price of $8.99 a box plus 6% sales tax and was very disapointed with the results. I had better accuracy with my smoothbore barrel and Federal Truball slugs than with the combination of what I shot today. The combo was a Remmy 870 with a 30" rifled barrel and Brenneke short magnum slugs. I would like to use Unique & Winchester AA hulls. Can anyone steer me in the right direction so I can start getting the slugs and whatever else I need to do the job. I would be loading on a [please don't laugh] Lee Load All. Thanks in advance.

Are you wanting to use the Brenneke slugs with the unique and aa hulls? I still have a few (i think) of those around here somewhere, but unless i am mistaken those slugs performed better in smoothbores and were intended for such. There is nothing wrong with load alls i have several of them and i have a mec sizemaster as well and i use the loadalls more often as i have a large quantity of new hulls and they load new hulls better than a mec . You can load some fine slugs using it. I will look and see if i have any data with those components and report back, but in the past few years the only slugs i have been loading has been the Lee and Lyman sabots.

I really don't know what I would be using as far as slugs go. I went to the BPI website and found a kit that comes with the hulls , and sabots so I am leaning towards those but all I have for powder is Unique and IMR 4064. Alliants site doesn't have load data for slugs so I don't want to buy another powder just for the loading of slugs.

I checked and i don't have data using unique and slugs (although i have used it for close range target shooting in the yard with slugs) i would suggest that if you are after serious slug loads that you use a straight walled case such as federal gold medals or even the euro trash hulls as AA's really are not suitable. Alliant used to list slug loads, but they left out a lot of data when they updated their site and manual.

I mainly use blue dot with slugs, but do use, or have used universal, Acc #5, and 800x with good results. Alliant has always answered any questions i have had and sent me data via email every time i have requested data that was unavailable on their website...shoot them an email, but you will need to know what components you will be using or they won't be able to help.
