I have noticed that powder is for sale sometimes and not that expensive but becoming more and more available. I also noticed that Primers are not even available at any of the reloading sites. When does the experienced reloaders think that primers are going to become readily available?? Do you think that the sites that have them for absorbanent prices are getting supplied first because they are the business and the lonely reloader has to go to them?? Are Primers ever going to become available in the near future, What do you reloaders think. Back in 2013, I bought alot of ammo but didn't think I would need reloading supplies and they are kind of extinct, at the moment!! I have probably over 3k-5K rounds waiting on primers, have everything else but no primers, getting to where I will almost pay any price for some primers, need them badly.

Primers have been showing up almost every week day on the major reloading sites for 75-100 a brick, watch the thread were reloading components are available some will show up today. Most of what I’m seeing is SRP SPP LPP and almost all cci probably just over run on orders that make ammo. It has greatly improved in the past few months will likely not see any price stability until the ammo market stabilization

Any answer given would only be a guess. But this is not the first shortage that we have had and things have always come back. I would guess that they will this time too. I'm getting Emails from places like Midway and Brownells weekly about powder and primers in stock. The last Brownells ad had powder at decent prices.

Primers have been popping up more frequently. I wouldn't call the prices good, but much better than what you find on GB. Join the reloading discord and you can set notifications for primers.

Well you don't need them if you like buying already made ammo like you did in 2013

I think I'd rather just shoot 22lr then reload @ these ridiculous prices. A loaded round of 22 cost the same as a single primer.

I've been seeing small amounts of primers coming in from time to time. My local gun shop said they don't expect regular shipments again until March 1, 2022 from Winchester. And then again they did get 1,000 bricks of Cheddite 209s last month. At $50/1,000, limit 1 per person, they sold out in 4 days. I've also seen small quantities of LPP at gun shows recently if you want to pay $125/brick. MidwayUSA and Brownells have them once in a while, if you can catch them on-line when they are in stock.
Federal is completing a big ammo contract by the U.S. Armed Force's 2018 contract. Hopefully they can then divert some of that production equipment to retail primers. From what I've read, if one looks at all the gun buys in the last 2.5 years; if all those buys bought just one box of ammo, it would amount to 420 million rounds of ammo. Guns and Ammo Magazine, Oct. issue 2021 page 13.

When will they come back at low prices?
No idea. Probably never at pre-covid prices.
When will RETAIL supply catch up with HOME CONSUMER demand?
My best guess is mid-2023 based on infection rates, hospitalization, and the changing nature of CDC guidance on workplace precautions. It's only a guess based on when I think warehouse and transportation workers will return to the workplace at pre-covid staffing levels.
When will DISTRIBUTOR supply catch up with INDUSTRIAL CONSUMER demand?
It looks to me like maybe it already has. Some of the larger custom handloading outfits are offering loaded ammo already. Some smaller ones aren't. It's kind of spotty now but improving.

Hold tight, pay up if you have to but stocking up now is a bad investment, IMO. Maybe you can do some swapping and trading - powders for primers, etc.?

There was another thread from a guy explaining his caribou harvest, all done with .22lr. Of course this was on tribal lands.

Its amazing what they are allowed to do. I fully understand that it is a very different thing than how most of us hunt, so no shade being thrown by me. Still amazed.

I forget where I saw it, but there was a post within the last couple days from a reputable CCI dealer stating a new price increase is coming on everything again. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I would be hard pressed to say that any of the previous shortages were even close to lasting as long as this one, in my region, anyway...Academy has been the only place I have had any luck...but I am just an enthusiast...

With fuels and rampant inflation, as they are; $60 may be as good as it gets, for awhile.

One thing for sure, what few primers, I have had to buy, were bought from LGS or Academy.
The neckbeards and scalpers can burn in H***.

LGS has banned a few from buying primers, after they bought primers and had listings, 20 minutes later, at 300% mark up. At that time, LGS was selling at $42.50. They have had limits on all components, to help spread them help.

You know; I'm seriously thinking about picking up a bow and trying to learn a new skill. I'm not going to quit shooting but use the bow to compliment the guns.

i can’t pull a bow anymore. I get what you mean. I have sworn off buying new guns in calibers that I don’t have ammo/supplies for. What’s the point in buying a new gun if you can’t get ammo or reloading supplies at reasonable and reliable prices. I have traded a few guns in my favorite flavors, but that’s another story.

Primers are going to take a little while to come back to normal. I've got contacts with the 4 primer mfgs in the US and they all tell me that they are having the same issues that I've been having. They can't source enough brass or copper for their needs. Our government has screwed us all over with their destruction of the supply lines. Giving unemployment to anyone who quits their job with the excuse that they feel unsafe and paying more than businesses can afford has decimated manufacturing and infrastructure. Businesses are struggling to get by while the government inflates costs and tries to get everyone to a $15 minimum wage so that they can pin an award on their vest. It is destroying manufacturing in the US and making us completely dependent on foreign trade for survival. Until the government stops allowing people to sit at home and leech from those who are working, the situation cannot fix itself. It feels like an intentional attack on our economy.

In other news, I've now heard of 5 new companies that are planning to make primers. It's been over a year since they started and I've heard nothing on their progress. My guess is a company entering the business is going to have even more trouble getting brass. I don't think that the primer situation is going to get better until the government stops trying to destroy the supply lines and economy. BUT, when these 5 new companies start producing primers, there is going to be a surplus that should = lower prices and competition for better quality.
