Reloading work-area safety. RECALL on Kidde fire extinguishers

UPDATE 12/7/2017 Replacement fire extinguisher was delivered today by FedEx from Kidde. Instructions were inside to package the old affected extinguisher in the cardboard box. Shipping label for return postage was inside. NOTE: Don't destroy the box or throw away the styrofoam peanuts, as it's needed for the return shipping. IMO, they handled the recall very professionally.
Merry Christmas to all :D
I am surprised that they are having folks send them back. I had a couple at the church recalled a couple of years ago (and which have once again been recalled this time), and then they gave me instructions to discharge them into a trash bag (outside), and then dispose of the contents and recycle the empty shell. This must be costing them millions, and I am certainly glad that I don't own any of their stock. Mine for home should be here tomorrow, but no word yet on shipping for the 9 from church.

Many thanks to Artofgolf for the notification.
3 of my 7 (house, truck, boats, sheds) were on the list and will be replaced. Some of them were 25 years old (all pointers in green) so this is a great opportunity to get new ones for nothing. Hope it doesn't bankrupt Kidde.

Just FYI...

Basic fire exting stuff. Take the Exting out of bracket once or twice a year, look at valve to check ''ok'' green charge. Perhaps at time change? Rotate Exting. several times to ensure chemicals are Ok. Think ''shake it up'' just slower. Learned from a local Fire Chief. Also I know responders to every local fire, overwhelmingy it's extension cords / space heaters or combos thereof.

Best to have Fire Exting. in kitchen, bedroom hallway, bedroom, motor vehicles (as sometime mandated by law i.e. motor boat), garage, hobby shop. And the only thing I would suggest extra, which directly means the previous suggestions are just basics, extra would be a bigger unit in the bedroom in case your primary exit is blocked & you have to literally fight fire to get out.

Thank you to OP & others for this post, Mods for leaving it open etc. A safe fire free Holiday season to all:)
