I haven't heard anyone say "Send it back to Remington" they have a lot of
experience fixing 1100s.

Yes, I have all the barrel and serial number codes and receiver size designators; which are heretofore worthless with the new RS serial number system. As you noted, if the barrel can be changed one can only say with some certainty that it could be the original barrel, or not. Many barrels do not have a date code - I have three. My supposition is when the date code stamper went on break or vacation they just kept right on rolling.

When I go to the International Cartridge Collectors show in St. Louis this April, I will ask Roy Marcot about the new RS serial number system. Roy is the president of the Remington Society of America, ( which I belong) and is usually in attendance. He is a member of the group that goes once a year to see the Remington archives that is not available to the general public. Or you could address your question to RSA yourself. Go to www.remingtonsociety.com and see if there is somewhere you can present your questions. Good luck.

Did you see in the codes listed that the years 1999, 2000, and 2001 had NO date codes on the barrels, but were on the flap of the shipping box only? My list only goes to 2012. I do not know why it has not been updated. Maybe this is when the RS serial numbers started.

The Remington Society can't add anything, because there is no new "system". Just a serial number and RS. It has been discussed on the RSA forum. I believe it did start "around" 2010.

I had a hunting buddy who had a fail to feed issue with an 1100 with a high round count. It ended up being a worn action bar assembly that was causing the problem. If I recall correctly, it was wear on the action bar under the bolt in the area that activates movement of the shell stops. if all else fails you might look there.

I was privy to the new Coding when I was at the Factory. It is a Highly Guarded Secret but for Members of this forum I will tell you, however, you must vow to keep the Secret. RS stands for "Remington Shotgun". When Freedom Group took over some idiot wanted to identify the guns by all the manufacturers they owned. Since I am divulging highly sensitive information I will also add that RR stands for "Remington Rifle".

However, all that is history as the last twenty 870's I got in now start with CC. I have no idea what that means and my Rep said they simply ran out of five digit number in the RS series.

It's an 1100, not a Swiss watch.
If you suspect the trigger group............swap in one from another gun.
See what that does............can do the same for action bar assembly.
Surely you have a buddy with a beater 1100 that runs.

I got the feed latch from Brownells yesterday, and installed it today. When I took out the old latch, I found out that the last 1/16 inch of the latch that went into the magazine tube was broken off. That allowed the feed latch to bend away from the receiver and not allow the next shell to be released from the magazine. Shells now feed from the magazine tube into the chamber. I think that I will go shoot some Sporting Clays this week. Today was in the 70's, but the next 5 days are in the mid 50's. still nice shooting weather in the South. So the action bars were ok and there was no buildup of trash under the feed latch as was suggested. Thanks for the suggestions and help. Now I both my 20 ga and 12 ga 1100's are in working order.

Glad you got everything back in working order. :) it gives a person a feeling of accomplishment when you can work on and fix something yourself.
