I have an oppotunity to pick up an 1100 magnum for a good price. And I have heard that in order to cycle 2 3/4" shells a non-magnum barrel is needed. My two questions are; Will the existing barrel cycle 3" steel loads? And what is the lightest 2 3/4" lead load that the Remington Steel Shot Barrel will cycle? I searched the Remington website and came up empty. Any input would be much appreciated.

I have only been around two 1100 Magnums, but not for long. Keep reading to see why I didn't stick around. Both cycled 3" steel loads - DON'T DO IT because the barrel probably, very likely, has a full choke. Steel pellets do NOT compress/flatten like lead pellets and can split the end of the barrel or blow it off. The same goes for 2-3/4 or 3" Hevi-Shot.

I've never seen a Steel Shot Barrel, but imagine it'll shoot the usual 1-1/8 or 1-1/4 oz. loads. Might shoot 1 oz. loads depending on the velocity, just like the standard 1100 guns.
