Hello all, I've managed to get an 1100 that was made in the early 70s and it appears to be lightly used. It does have some ding marks on the trigger guard. My issue is that when pulling the trigger back and to the right it will completely lock it up, but if I pull back and to the left it will release the firing pin as expected. Any ideas at what I should be looking for when I disassemble it? Anyone else have this problem?

Well I played with it some more and took it out hunting today and observed a few things. First the trigger has some side to side slop and is not crisp. It also feels pretty heavy, like maybe in the eight pound range.

Here's what I think has happened. The trigger has the side slop and when pushed to the right side it catches the safety and prevents it from firing. This probably pissed off the previous owner and he beat up the trigger guard in frustration, trying to get it to work. I know I missed several birds today until I figured it out.

So my remedy is to buy a new trigger group and I'm thinking this will resolve the problem. In all other aspects the gun looks and operates wonderfully. Thanks to all for your consideration.

Just a follow up post. I replaced the trigger group and the gun functions perfectly now.

Glad you got it running with the new trigger group.

Do you suppose the old TG was worn out somehow or just enough to the edge of specifications to cause the problems?

Do you see any areas of obvious wear on the old group?

I'm just curious because you mentioned the gun shows little signs of use but the TG is worn out?

Do any other of the moving parts show signs of a lot of use?

Now you just have to take it out to the field and give those birds a thrashing!

Glad you got it fixed. Just a guess, but I'd bet the old owner buggered it up when removing / reinstalling the trigger group.

Off topic, but the next time you place an order at a gunshop, buy a couple of the rubber O-rings that go on the magazine. If it's original, it's probably getting dried out.
