I would like to here from others who have had the pleser of owning and shooting one of these fine rifels

My first gun. I shot it for seven years when I was at Military school. The one gun I truly regretted getting rid of. At the time I needed a hunting rifle. At least I got to have RF perfection for a time.

Best regards,

ts

While I came to them later in life, I have to say that my 40-X is one of my all-time favorites. She's far more accurate than I am capable of ... I probably don't deserve to own her!

All of the 40Xs that I've seen, with the exception of those victims of creative gumsmithing, have been excellent shooters. At my club, those that want to participate in the local benchrest match, without spending thousands on a benchrest rifle, get a 40X.

Personally, I don't think that the 40X gives up much to the 54 action Anschutz rifles, except that the Anschutz has a faster lock time.

All of this assumes that you're talking about a CMP rifle. If you're talking new, get ready to break your bank account and then wait a LONG time, if they're even still available.

The 40X is a good rifle. If you want to build a custom target rifle there really is no better action to start with. In stock form they will be a bit lacking in performance with the biggest issues being the triggers and the barrel, but both are easily replaced if you want to match an Anschutz, Walther, or Feinwerkbau. With a bit of work the 40X will easily keep up or surpass the German rifles. The good thing is everything on the 40X is easily replaced if you wish and most good rifle smiths are familiar with the 40X and have all the tools needed to work on them.

Back in the 1980's I was doing "Mini-sniping" with a 40-X I owned.
I used 100 yard silhouette targets that simulated a man 1000 yards away.
I had a Leupold 12X target scope on it.

At the time the only available range was 100 yards or I would have been shooting at 200 yards.

I was talking to the manager of the Remington Custom Shop about another rifle and somehow the subject turned to the 40-X.
The manager told me that they wouldn't allow a 40-X out of the shop unless it would group under 3/4" at 100 yards, and most of them did much better than that.

The 40-X is the ultimate "big rifle" .22LR.

My old DCM affiliated gun club had 3 or 4 Winchester Model 52 and 3 or 4 Remington 40-X target rifles issued by the DCM.
In the late 80's they recalled them and our 10 Youth Club Remington 513-T and our 10 M1 rifles.
All of them were ground up in Captain Crunch under Bill Clinton.
Can't have the drug dealers weapon of choice like a 15 pound Remington 40-X .22LR target rifle loose.

my 40xis a HB. thay also cum in a standerd berrel . I just love to see how many times I can shoot threw the same hole at 50 yd. before I screw it up . my girl is a hog at 18lb. but see shure is stedy. when my dad was in the ROTC thay shot the 513T and I found him one last yr. with the stock and recever & beral #s maching . I just cant get the hang of the redfild peep sight . the CZ and Anshutz both are excellent as well .I have shot both and would by both .I just like shooting 22s and in this economy you get more shots for your dollar .

My 40X .22LR was made into a benchrest rifle, having a Lilja barrel, McMillan heavy benchrest stock, Jewell trigger and Harrell tuner. It sports a 36X Weaver bumped to 42X.

I can't shoot better than this rifle and ammo combination. One match, it shot two 250s and a 249 to tie a 6th place world record. The last shot of the third target was just off the ten by a hair. I say it was the ammo, but who cares?

I started shooting rimfire benchrest with a factory Win 52C, modified it with new barrel, stock, etc, but it wasn't as good as it needed to be. I also had an Annie 54 with a synthetic stock, but again, not what I wanted. The 40X is my favorite action, smooth and tight!
