So currently I'm torn between getting an M1 or doing a 700 build. I've been proving out both roughly and the 700 (in .308) build would be more but I thoroughly enjoyed doing my AR build. I just want some opinions on parts.
For actions I'm pretty well settled on surgeon rifles 591 short action, an AAC threaded bull barrel(I intend to suppress), JAE-700 stock and leupold mark 4 scope what I really need help on is the trigger group, and favorite 10 round mags. This is where I look to the more knowledgable among us. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Timney is a well respected trigger and AIC mags are considered to be some of the best.

Have you checked out the Vortex Viper PST line? They have more features than the Mk4 for considerably less and are known to be pretty tough too. I'm a Leupold fan myself but the Mk4 line is priced to high in my opinion. Plus they are lagging behind in the features department.

Yeah I have heard that, but is the Vortex reticle milling designed around .308 like the Mk4? Also, I am newish to bolt guns, does the .308 have similar pressures as it's nato equivalent like .223 v. 5.56? Or will a heavy barrel be a heavy barrel regardless of the round?

The trigger choice would be easy for me-Jewell first,Timney second,Rifle Basix third.I have a RB trigger on my 308 and it's gonna get moved to another less used rifle over the winter. The one I have isn't consistent like the Jewell triggers I've shot.Whatever you build, enjoy!

Better get in line for that Surgeon action... They are more than 5 months out on orders placed today. Yes they are awesome, but there are other options as well (Stiller, Defiance, Big Horn).

ARs are legos for grown ups; Building a Remington 700 that'll actually shoot is a whole 'nother ball-o-wax. It's experienced gunsmith territory, not basement tinkerer stuff.

That said, I like both Jewell and Timney triggers. I'd go with the Jewell myself.

I really can't help you on a 10 rd. detacheable, though, as I've no experience with them.

I would most likely use my tax return for it anyway. I am in no hurry whatsoever. I will for sure check out those other brands though I hadn't seen stiller. Thanks for the input.

I am going to have a Gunsmith do everything anyway I don't have the tools I really enjoy the shopping portion of builds but would like tot learn more like head spacing and accurizing.

Build a Savage action, you can do it yourself with a bare minimum of basic tools and the barrel nut head spacing is almost idiot proof :D
I have for years been a believer in Savages simple yet remarkably effective design. I bought a 110 30-06 with the intent to build a custom 280 AI target gun but the darn thing shot so well out the box I cannot bring myself to tear it down.

I have thought about it I just like the insane availability of 700 parts. I won't discount the thought in future though. I'd like a .30-06 or even a 7mm maybe ill do it in one of those.

I think the 110 has every bit the aftermarket the 700 does, I cannot think of a single part that I cannot get for one from several top notch manufactures.
