Dang...I was mounting a scope on my Rem 700 and stripped the rear-most hole for the mount. I barely tightened the bolt and it stripped. I suspect the rifle and not me. I never stripped a hole or bolt before.

Anybody know if the 700 has quality issues here???? Or is it me? Or is it the bolts the Talley supplied????

It goes to my favorite gunsmith tomorrow. This sucks.

"Bolts"? Do you mean screws?

What stripped, the screw or the threads in the receiver? If the latter, the best thing to do is to have the gunsmith drill all the holes larger and install 8x40 screws instead of those 6x48 screws. The larger screws make a better rig anyway, especially if the rifle has a heavy recoil (you don't mention the caliber).

How much thread engagement did you have? I have seen this happen when the screws were too short for the mount and engaged only a few threads in the receiver. IIRC, Brownells sells an "oversize" 6-48 screw and tap set for this problem in addition to the 8-40 solution Jim mentions.
