Anyone have any recommendations on loading the above. No need to discuss what to carry for self defense.

I am looking to load primarily for a glock 36. Have hs6, longshot, titegroup, hp38, unique, bullseye and be86 on hand. Anyone have any good loads they like. Have manuals just looking at cutting down on some trial and error with an expensive bullet.

As you can see in the picture above, Golden Saber JHP bullets have "driving band" at the base and you want to use length that puts the driving band above the case mouth for reliable feeding.

How about using factory round OAL to speed up your load development? I use 185 gr Golden Saber JHP and I think the 230 gr are loaded to same length of 1.237".

You have good selection of powders. While I like W231/HP-38 for lighter target loads and used WSF for full power loads, I am liking BE-86 for 9mm/40S&W. Since I haven't tested BE-86 with 45ACP bullets, can't recommend a load but for W231/HP-38, would suggest 5.3 gr W231/HP-38 for 230 gr GS JHP at 1.237" - http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol
230 GR. HDY FMJ FP W231/HP-38 COL 1.200" 4.2 gr (751 fps) - 5.3 gr (832 fps)
Other members should be coming along before too long to post their favored 230 gr JHP loads for powders you listed.

er,

My data for Rem. 230gr. Golden Sabers with Unique and 5" barreled SA 1911.

5,7 gr, Unique- 820 ft./sec
6,0 gr, Unique- 840 ft./sec
6.3 gr. Unique- 855 ft./sec

Fires and functions in my other .45's as well including shorter barreled pistols.

best wishes- oldandslow

Golden Saber JHP bullets have "driving band"
In a lead bullet that would be called a bore riding design. The GS will go a little slower for the same powder charge than a JHP in the standard configuration as it builds less pressure.

6.2 Grs of N340 pushes the 230 Gr GS right at 850ish FPS from a 5" 1911 when loaded at 1.233 (+/- .002) OAL. Start low and work up.

I duplicated a REM 230 GRN "Bonded GS" load using Blue Dot after Chronographing factory loads:

OAL: 1.243 (factory OAL)
9.8 Blue Dot
WLP
Starline Brass

5" Les Baer: 884 FPS at 44 degrees
4.25" Les Baer: 832 FPS at 44 Degrees

Oehler 35P 10' from muzzle.

I'd use the LongShot to try and duplicate the factory MV. I've used it in 357 SIG and have been impressed with the velocities obtained.

Regardless of our suggestions, what performs best from your gun will still be found only thru trial and error. I've found that using bullets of similar weight and profile differ very little from an accuracy/velocity standpoint in pistols like the 1911, especially at SD ranges. Maybe Glocks are no different. Using a budget 230 gr JHP with a similar profile should get you close when working up a load and may save you a few of the pricey GSs. Most manuals give their "most accurate" loads or tell you what powder works best for them. Now velocity from your firearm will vary from published loads as well as possibly accuracy. But of you have manuals, you already have the right place to start.

I have had the best results with Win 231 for the 45 acp so out of your powder on hand HP38 would be my first pick

If you would not mind, are the Golden Saber bullets in 230gr. Still available, and where to get them. Thank you.

Factory RP 230 gr. Golden Sabers measured 1.235" oal. Using Unique powder with RP cases and RP 2 1/2 primers I have worked up to a max at 6.7 grains with the 230 GS in both a G36 and G21 Glock. It's said that the Golden Saber with the minor diameter and a driving band that you need about two tenths more powder to equal the pressure and velocity of a standard copper jacketed bullet. I would add in all the workups I've done using AA#5 and Unique with the 230 Golden Saber in 45 ACP,d Hornady data for their 230 gr. XTP can be used safely. I'd pick Unique from your list of powders.

For full Power .45 loads I really like CFE-P. but tha'ts not on your list.
The GS are hard to come by and pricey (but nice)
I might give the BE86 and Longshot a try. Alliant does list +P data for .45 with BE86 in their 2015 Manual if you are interested in going to +P pressures.

Guys very good info. I forgot on my list, I do have cfe pistol that i use in 9 mm.

I ordered a few more tonight so I'll be able to properly work up a load I like. I use 5.0 of bullseye a lot in plated bullets so that will be one load I try. Unique has always been good for me too so I think i'll load up a few with different charges of it and also some with cfep and see which gives me the best performance. With xtreme 230 plated rn 5.0 of bullseye got me 754 fps out of my g36 and 850 with my 1911 so I am curious how the gs will compare.

Shot loads today over chrono. Below is avg, es and sd out of a g36 and sa 1911 5". Win lp at 1.235 oal.

5.0 bullseye
g36: 780, 16, 6
1911: 836, 21, 8

6.2 cfep
g36: 751, 50, 18
1911: 819, 27, 12

6.6 cfep
g36: 802, 24, 9
1911: 872, 32, 13

6.0 unique
g36: 811, 35, 15
1911: 887, 44, 17

6.5 unique
g36: 864. 25, 11
1911: 946, 34, 15

To me the cfep and even bullseye seemed snappier than unique.

The 6.6 cfep was most accurate in g36 and all shot 4" high at 20 yards. Unique is best in the 1911 and shot pretty much to poa. Not sure what to do but I am leaning towards using the cfep at 6.6. Maybe a little snappy in the g36 but not a range round.
