I won it yesterday for $389. It was advertised as New old stock, and appears to have not been shot, still in box in fact. It's the black synthetic with vented rib 28" barrel. I can't seem to find the synthetic ones on the boards anywhere, is there a reason? I like the look and hope I did well with the price. Opinions?

Back before there was THR, a bunch of us were on The Firing Line. Word reached us that Walmart had a discontinued house model of the 1100 with a matte finish, synthetic stock and a Remchoked barrel that came with one tube, Modified. Prices eventually got down to as low as $328, and joy resounded throughout the land.

Bet this is one of those. Great shotgun, good price.

Back in the mid/late '80s, Remington marketed the 1100 Sportsman, that fits your description. If memory serves me, they all came w/ a 28" RemChoke barrel w/ a modified tube.
A buddy of mine and his two brothers all ordered this shotgun. They won't part with any of the three 1100s!
Any way that you can post a picture???

These 'Sportsman' models are/were the predecessor to the 'Express' lineup that Remington has marketed on the 870 line. (There was also a 'Sportsman' model of the 870, also, that I purchased [$184.00 new at 'Best Products' in New Carrolton, MD] and another friend just 'had to have it' so, it now resides in his gunsafe.)

No pics, I didn't get one myself. I did help spread the word and IIRC, over 100 folks got a new 1100 cheap.

Sportsman sounds about right. These Wally specials were supposed to be a specific run just for Walmart.

Yep, looks like the Dave McC Walmart special. Got mine new for $268 + tax about five or six years ago thanks to that now famous TFL post. Great shotgun, a ton of fun, and very reliable! :)
