Ordered the gun

I ordered the gun today and paid for it. Now all I have to do is wait.
Talking about the war of Northern Aggression it is very hard for me even to watch TV when stories come on about that War; I turn them off. I don't talk about it; my family lost so much because of that war.

Everybody lost in that War

but have ya ever heard the old sayin , failure to look at history isa sure fire way to repeat it ?
I understand though you have had your stomach full though . I have to watch that stuff so I never forget .

Congrats on the gun :D

1858 Remington

After I put the after market main spring in my 58, It is the best mechanical working revolver I have ever had in my hand. If my 75 Remington works the same way as the 51 with a main spring change athat is going to be one terrific gun.
I have never shot a 73 Colt. The only Colt revolvers I have use was the ones given to me as service revolvers while I was a police officer. Every one of them shaved lead. One of the drills was to hold your left hand out so that you could transfer the gun from the right hand to the left. My left hand would be bloody after the shoot.
Smiths are well made revolvers, but this Remington is so simple with very few parts, and it is like a well timed sewing machine. The 1875 configuration is the same except for the hammer. The first thing I am going to do is change the main spring.

Thats cool

and glad your enjoyin it :D
Sounds like you gotta little love afair with all the forementioned revolvers , not just one , but all of them :)
Very good, carry on !

I got on Monday and sent it back on Tuesday.

It is a good feeling gun. It balances real well , quick to get on target.
I brought it home cleaned it up a little; read the instruction manual about the hammer safety, put some snap caps in the cylinder went to pull the hammer back, and noticed that the firing pin retaining pin was out about a forth of an inch resting on the breach. I pulled the hammer back and pushed the pin back with my finger lowered the hammer and set the safety. I looked the gun over and found that the retaining pin had scored the breach and the pin was marred, and had a small raised piece of metal that would not go completely in the hammer. The lower end of the cartridge discharge ram was marred and had several ridges and the finish looked like foot hills. There was an 1/8th of an inch gap between the metal and the right grip.
I was under the impression that Uberti's work was superior to that of Pietta, but my Pietta 1858 was flawless. I have a bad taste in my mouth about it. I sure wanted to shoot that 1875 Outlaw yesterday.

Sorry to hear that

I know what that's like , your not alone .
Even Uberti puts out Turds from time to time , or your suppleir geets turds to sell , one or the other , Cheaper Than Dirt and Sportsmens Guide and Cabelas are the worst offenders .
Bummer man, hang in there , hope whomever you bought it from will replace it for free, with shipping , and a box of shells for pissin you off .

Good luck , sorry man , that just bites . :cuss:

I got my '75's and 90's used, and two outta the four someone had removed the stupid safety. That's just for import anyways.First thing I do on the '73 clones is replace the stupid double position base pin/safety with a Colt pin or Base Mountain pin. They also blow.Import safety devices, added as an ater thought, generally do.Fortunately,it's a five minute fix.

I may remove the safety too when I get it back. If you load five and put the hammer on an empty cylinder there is no need for it. It is unsafe to load six in the gun. The safety does not move the firing pin that much off the primer.
I don't like the firing pin. I wish it was like my old S&W 38 integral with the hammer. I don't know how it was designed on the original 1875 Remington. I doubt it had a removable firing pin with a retaining pin.

On mine you can carefully lower the firing pin between cartridge rims,if you just ''had'' to carry six,but it's much simpler and safer to just load one, skip one,and load four more, which ''automatically'' puts an empty under the hammer.
