I have recently purchased a remington 1911 r1. I love it but their is one problem. You can only adjust the sights left and right and it shoots a bit low at 25 yds. Any suggestions?

The pistol "should" hit point of aim with 230s.. My next questions have to do with training you have had on stance, grip, sight picture, and trigger control.. How much experience do you have?

Quite a bit ive been shooting for about 15 years. I also have training in the air force. Im not leaning into it or anticipating the shot. the trigger is pretty light also. I shoot a good two inch group 3 to 4 inches low dead center.

How low is it printing? You could replace the front site with a lower one to raise the point of impact.... Just depends how low it is shooting. I have a Remington R1 but all of my shooting is done closer, about 15 yards max and mine is fine at that distance...

I'm not too picky though, all I really care is if I can hit center mass at SD distance.

Mine shoots a bit low also, this seems to be a problem with the R1. I aim using the front sight white dot to compensate, rather than the top of the sight. One solution is to file down the front sight in very small increments until your impact point is where you want it.

Use a little Kentucky Windage.

Aim higher. Really, I thought my Glock shot a bit low, but I was putting the front sight so that the top of the front sight was in line with the top of the rear sight. This put the front dot just a little lower than the rear dots. Once I changed my sight picture so that the dots lined up the top of the front sight sat a little high, but the gun shot top point-of-aim.

What kind of target are you using, and what aiming point? Being a gunfighting pistol, the sights may be regulated to hit thecenter of the bullseye rather than the bottom (aka "'six o'clock' hold").

I have have thought of filing the sight but even then you would still have to set the front dot higher than the rears so its pointless to file since youre compensating anyways. I spoke with remington i told them the problem and they are sending me a lower front sight. hopefully this will help.
Thanks for all the help.
I will let you all know how it turns out.

I find that at 25-30 ft, mine is shooting right at point of aim. abut not lollypop style, rather putting it right on the spot you want to hit, dead center, have you tried that?

I'd settle on the most commonly found round that you like, shoot'er up past break in and have a couple of pals shoot the same ammo before messing with anything.

Having re-read the article, I like the writer's notion of a Remington Trifecta with the 700, 870 and this heater.

R1 Sight adjustment

I need to know the actual tool needed to remove the sights on a R1. Does anyone know? It looks like a micro allen wrench.

So the tool is just a small Allen wrench like i said. The new front sight Remington sent works great. I shoot tremendously well with the new sight. Thanks for all the help.
