Your 550-1 does not have a scope mount. Although some of them do. After mid 50's I think.
You'll have to use your imigination to add one. My 1948 model has a side mounted scope, but it will only hold a 3/4" dia scope tube. A good gunsmith can probably get you set up.
The 3/8" slotted mount used for most American made .22 rifles today is properly called a Weaver Tip-Off mount.
It's called that because the W. R. Weaver Scope Company invented the concept back in the early 1950's for use with their inexpensive .22 scopes that included a stamped sheet-metal clamp mount.
Your 550-1 was introduced in 1946, and they didn't start milling the Tip-Off mount base in the receiver until the cheap .22 scope & Tip-Off mount became widely used & available several years later.
