Scope base and scope for...

my Dad's old Remington 550-1? It has drill holes on the left side of the receiver that have been there as long as I can remember. I can't recall it ever having a scope mounted on it. What would be the best scope mount to utilize for this rifle. I could measure the distance btw the holes and the hole diameters first. Which maker sells the most adaptable side mounts?

Or more likely, it had an old Weaver N3 steel side mount base.

The problem with that is, nobody makes 7/8" scopes anymore.

I've gone to the Weaver website and they have some side mounts that might work. I don't know which would be right. I will go to one of the Weaver dealers here and have them look at the rifle and see what is available.
