I have been told that the .22 cal Remington model 552 was introduced to be the rimfire version of a Remington center fire rifle, but I can not recall the model. Does anyone know which center fire rifle was the "big brother" to the 552? Thanks, Jim

The centerfire autoloader would be the 740 Woodsmaster series.
The 760 Gamemaster pumps looked the same.

However, I don't know how much stock I would put in the 552 being designed to look like one.

If you think about it, they all also looked like an 870 Wingmaster/1100 shotgun too!

I think that's just the way Remingtons looked when all those guns were designed.

I think it was a conscious decision by Remington to have centerfire rifles, rimfire rifles, and shotguns looking as much alike as possible. Corporate identity, you could say.

I thought I had heard that Remington designed the 552 to look like a certain centerfire rifle with the idea that it would be inexpensive practice. Thanks, Jim

I looked at older designs but that doesn't really look like the Model 8 or other obvious Browning square-back rifles.

Most closely a 742/760 7400/7600 etc.

Hello friends and neighbors // Yep the semi-auto Remington 552 was the .22 rimfire version of the semi-auto 742 centerfire.

I have a 552 semi-auto .22 and a Remington 760 .30-06, the pump action model, both great firearms. I'd like to find a .223 in either Model 742 or 760.

I just saw a 552 BDL Deluxe today for $369.00 (a little steep for me ) the checkering and embossing was identical to my 870 Wingmaster and my 760 Gamemaster so I was greatly tempted.
