Remington 552 Question

This thing fell out of the fore end of a Remington 552 Speedmaster that I was taking apart, and I don't see it on any of the schematics. It's a thin piece of metal or plastic and kind of sticky on one side. Any ideas?

If it fell out of the forend ... is there a spot inside that looks like it might mate to that part?

Without a better idea of the design, or photos ..... I for one am only guessing.

That's what it appears to be. Will have to take some photos when I get down in the basement again.
