remington 597 .17 rebarrel

A while back I described how a friends .17 remington 597 blasted the mag out the bottom and all over the place.
From advice here I suggested he send it back for a 22 mag rebarrel.
Well it worked and he just got it back from Remington with a new barrel and magazine.

Remington 597 22mag blow up

My first day at the range I blew up a magazine, did a little research and kept my rounds to under 8 in the magazine. Today it blew the bolt handle about 10yds damaged the extractor (missing) bent the spring and the bullet is 12" from the muzzle. Glad no one was next to me!

I don't know what research you did that led you to believe that loading 8 rounds would somehow prevent a 17HMR Kaboom, but as you have proven, it won't.

Get it rebarreled to 22 Mag and enjoy.

My mistake, I overlooked the title and just read the post.

It's unusual for a 22 mag to kaboom, any idea on why it happened and what is the 8 round thing about?

gun is going back to remington lets see how they handle this. I definately don't want the $200 offer they where previusley offering. I want my gun fixed or replaced. I am waiting for a reply from fiocchi
