Remington 600 scope mounting solution?!?

Hey there everyone. I have just joined to "Remington 600" owners club. I got a great deal on a 1964 model in .308.
Regarding mounting optics to this rifle. Am I limited to 600 model bases or would 700 bases work on this rifle? My google foo us not turning up much besides pictanny or weaver rifles in the 5- 10 dollar range. I'm not made of money but I am not cheap either. This rifle deserves a better mounting solution than that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -66912

IMHO, Weaver works just fine. I'm with you on better bases and rings, but Weaver is "very" hard to beat, especially when you factor in the price.

If I recall, Leupold Rem Mod 7 bases work. I like the QR series

I'm not a big fan of Weaver rings, but there's nothing wrong with Weaver bases and you can pick from a cornucopia of rings.

My question has to be - what is wrong with Weaver Detachable bases.

The Weaver base is a solid platform that was used for many years by such notable gun experts and snipers as Carlos Hathcock and Charles Benjamin Mawhinney..

Don't let anybody Jack U off, the first sniper rifles of the Vietnam war were nothing but a couple of Model 700 (M-40) Remington and Model 70 Winchester hunting rifles that were requisitioned from the PX and outfitted with Redfield Widefield 3 x 9 x 40 scope....
Beggars can't be choosers when you are in dire straits..

When the goal is to be able to take the rifle apart, put it back together in the field with almost no tools involved, take your shot accurately and get the heck out of there - the Weaver rail type scope mounts did a excellent job.
The repeatability was almost 100%.

I would like to see someone take a scope of one of these new rifles and put it back on and have it hit in the same place 99% of the time.

I've been hunting with my 660 carbine for over 40 years. The .308 cartridge is a favorite. I've taken many trophies with this carbine across North America. Mount is "see thru" style by Williams of Michigan but no longer made. The mount screws were installed with a drop of wood varnish on threads. This rifle holds its zero year after year after year...

Leupold has 50005 (gloss) or 50006 (matte) that will work for your remington 600. They are the Standard style base and then can use the standard rings, just need to choose the scope to confirm the ring height and diameter.

Weavers will work just fine, but I like the one piece Redfields.

I surely intended to spend a bit more than that and when it comes to mounting optics I am leary of the cheapest option.
But if the consensus says that Weaver bases are all around the board priced low, then you sold me.
I was also unsure that since this rifle is so much older, is it going to be difficult to find bases for a 600 of this age?

Accuracy:

- BEST deer ammo: FEDERAL Hi SHOK 150 grain

- BEST elk + bear ammo: Black Hills 180 grain AccuBond

But in the past, I've toppled many animals cleanly with plain Remington core-lokt ammo; it expands well and produces quite lethal wounds, indeed.
