Ok, so if you take a Remington 700 in .30-06 (long action), what other standard calibers (let's avoid wildcats for now) can the action be used for? Of course you'd have to purchase/make the correct barrel, and possibly need a LA stock with a mag well for said caliber... but what options are out there?

The first and simplest list would be the calibers developed from resized .30-06 cases. AFAIK they all fit in the same magazines as .30-06.

.25-06 Remington
.270 Winchester
.280 Remington
.338-06 A-Square
.35 Whelen

I believe you can also use the LA receiver for any 57mm Mauser case variants, and the 6.5x55 Swede. You could probably do 7.62x56 Hungarian, 7.62x54 Russian, etc., also, though I'm not sure why you'd want to. These would take a little more care; they're shorter than .30-06.

Some companies use long actions for .308 family rounds as well, though I can't see why you'd want to do that when you can get a 700 SA just as easily.

Armed bear:, If I had a LA and wanted to rig up a , say SA .308 or the like, I would use the LA. OF course you could not go the other way...

Hey guys, by the H&R single with a .223 and a .204Ruger barrel . The .204 shoots flatter and faster. Buy what ammo you can, then change as needbe. By the way, all ammo and reloading supplies are going up. Here in E. Kentucky some stores are already dropping Winchester shot shells. , Some ever have been buying at Wal mart and reselling, Cheaperthan the wholesalers. I just bought a new .204 Ruger, love the cartridge. maybe more than the .223.

"No...IIRC it is based on the 6 mm Lee Navy, but is also a long action case. It has a case length of 2.205 inches or about 56 mm."

Correct.

I guess I should have said the .220 can be used in that action with no modification to the bolt face

using a long action for shorter, medium action calibers is awsome. it alllows you to use VLD's and other heavy for load bullets, and allows you to set them out a little father so you can maximise the powder space. -but do not use this to make more room for unsafe reloads.-

If you do not want to modify the bolt head you a left with cartidges with the same head as 30-06

To name a few: 22-250, 250 savage, 257 roberts, 284 winchester, 300 savage, 308, 243 ,
7mm-08, 7mm mauser, 8mm mauser, 260, 25-06, 270, 280,35 whelen, 358 winchester 35 rem

I got these from shell holder charts, I could be missing a few.
