I know alot of ppl dislike the synthetic stocks on the new remingtons but I just love the way the SPS looks in all black, nice lines and flows well with the design. Not very rigid but I have seen some very good groups regardless. Nice choice on the SPS, plus the price is usually pretty good. Good luck with your soon-to-be 700.

thanks man. Just started looking at the wonderful world of glass

Holy crap there's a lot of choices :what:

And its an important to chose the right one. This is one of those cases of "you get what you pay for." I believe the standard saying is get the best you can afford. Emphasis on afford. Because those things can get damn pricey as Im sure you've already figured out. Some cost more than the firearm they're mounted to!

hell yeah. I'm probably going to be in the market for a $200-300 scope. Plus I gotta get a locker to put it in so I can keep it at home, plus ~$20 a box for ammo, plus range time..... Probably won't get it till the summer when I start making better money lol

Might want to take a look at the Bushnell line of scopes if that is your price range for high magnification and maybe Leupold VX-II for low magnification. I hear Nikons are great too but I've never owned one.
I have a bushnell legend I absolutely love on my .17 hmr, I would probablly go one model up for something with more recoil. Just a suggestion.

Don't have any pics, but I do have a 700. Its a 39 year old ADL (almost every gun I own is older than me now that I think about it) in 7mm Mag. Right now it is wearing the cheapy Bushnell 3-9x40 it came with, and shoots alright with it. It will get a Leupold mounted up top sooner or later. Rifle , scope and rings, and 100 rounds of ammo cost me 400 bucks so it was a pretty fair deal, IMHO.

My Remington 700 SPS Tactical

I've owned this thing for about 2 month's now, I really like it. Here's a pic of the rifle and today's 3 shot, 200 yard group.:) Needless to say, I'm thrilled with 1.25" at 200 yards!:D

The load I'm running is:

168 grain Matchking
42.3 grains H-4895
Remington Case
Remington Primer
COL = 2.800"

700 police .308, cut down to 24", bushnell 6500 tactical on seekins precision equipment (20 moa base, with BC flip up caps and ARD) harris swivel, 3lb trigger.

target was at 100 yards, prvi partizan match at the end of legal shooting hours. just me and the bipod (yes the flyer was my fault:eek:)

Rem 78 Sportsman in 6mmBR Remington with Rem40X stock and Jewell trigger. Scopes are 6.5-20 VX3 Leuolds

I also have a 700 Classic in 6.5X55 and a 700 BDL that I had rebarreled to 7.62X39.

I'm mainly a T/C, CZ, & Remington man, in that order, when it comes to turnbolts, but I sold my model Seven during a personal 'fund-raiser'. Still have a 700 Mountain DM in .280 Rem. Nice performance & looks - to - weight - ratio going there.

I have a like-new/pristine Winchester Featherweight 70 in 7mm-08 with a Leupold VX-IIc scope on it, and want to trade it to get a Remington Model Seven in .260 Rem with wood stock, if anyone is interested.

My remington 700

I'm a huge fan of the remmy's. Still working on building a collection of them. right now I have this one that I've built.

Shoots very well and I am very proud of it. I've modified every part I can without a gunsmith, got the whole list of parts and write up is at this page about it. It's too much to write up here. This gun shoots much better than I can, but I'm at the range all the time working on that. ;)

I have liked my 700's. I am not a huge fan lately because their QC seems to have dropped off a bit BUT they still shoot. This is a box stock 700 SPS V (different scope in this pic) topped with a Nikon Monarch 5-20x44. I don't think it's EVER shot over MOA out to 300 yards using Hornady and Black hills 52 or 53 gr match ammo. Best 300 yard group was 2.1 inches, this is the best 100 yard group I ever shot with it.

I've got a 5R milspec. I'll put some pics up tomorrow. I've been shooting at a thousand yards recently up in Tennessee this summer. I got like 6 inch groups but wasn't really around long enough to get my round developed properly. I know the rifle is capable of much better though. But if anyone has any tips on .308 Hornady 208 grain AMAX ammo do tell. I was seating them out real far and throwing about 47.5 grains of RL 17 and just didn't have enough time to figure it all out.

Are you serious? 6 inch groups (almost 1/2 MOA) at 1000 yards with a factory rifle and not enough time to develop a "proper" load. And you say that you know the rifle can do better .... :what: I'd love to see those targets. For the record, Remington's 5R barrel isn't even close to a custom barrel.

:)
