5r, I don't think you need to develope the load further, I think you need to get the proper paperwork and start selling that load :). 6" at 1k is ridiculously impressive.

One of my Rem 700's

Here is a picture of my prairie dog gun:

.25-06 Remington
Hougue Overmold full aluminum block
Timney trigger
Shilen #7 contour 26" barrel 1-10 twist
Leupold VX-III 6.5x-14x 40mm
Action tuned/trued
Best 3 shot group at 100 yards was .290"

I've shot it out to 1,000 yards and it is quite accurate, though wind is a factor at that range. For commercial ammo, Hornady Light Magnum 117 grain BTSP were leaving the barrel at a shade over 3,200 fps. Now I need to start reloading for it.

Sorry about takin me so long to get back on here but I've been in and out of the hospital for the last week with my dang gall bladder. Yeah but the only thing about the round i shoot is that it is too long to use the floor plate. So you have to load each one individually (like that really matters in my opinion) but I would definitely trade that for performance. But about knowing the rifle can do better, I know it will make a one hole group at 100 yards or equivalent .4 inch diameter hole on paper (a fun game is shooting .22 rim fire cases at that distance). I have been to a few three hundred yard ranges with similar results but where I live in Florida really limited me to go much farther (I have heard of one guy who goes to the old drag strip and drives to one end and sets up a target drives back to the other and shoots a few rounds before people get suspicious and gets outta there). I was only in Tennessee for a month so i didn't have enough time to develop a round that would equal the same MOA groups i could achieve at 100 yards even when it was a calm day and I had my ballistic calculator on hand. But the round itself like I said is a 208 grain AMAX bullet seated out to 2.95 and with 47.5 grains of RL 17 behind it, it gets in the ballpark of 2550 fps muzzle velocity with a variation on the chrony of about 20 fps

very nice. i need to start handloading. i've been using ppu 168gr match.
break break
dr505, did you notice a big difference after getting it blueprinted?

Good Afternoon,

Iv'e been following this 700 thread for a couple of weeks now, and have been very impressed by the guns shooting ability for the price. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the operater, but the gun has to do it's part too.

I'm new here and am not sure if it's ok to post prices, but Cabelas in Hamburg Pa. is advertising the 700 ADL/Scope/ and case combo for $459.00 after rebates in it's in store flyer on their web site. It looks like a great price to me. Just might fight this nasty weather and take a ride to Pa. tomorrow.

I know the scope is not top of the line, but it can always be replaced. The sale is on until the 22nd of November. If anyone knows of a better deal, please let me know.

Always room for one more gun.

Ken

PS: If I'm out of bounds by posting sale prices, please let me know, and it won't happen again

I got a 700 .270 at walmart a 3-9x40mm scope with synthetic camo stock costs 497. I talked the guy at WalMart into bringing the manager over and got it for 470. I ended up putting a leupold rifleman 4-12x scope on it.

On remmingtons web site it has a ballistics calibrator and i put in all of the info. I sighted it in at 1.3 -1.4 inches high at 100 yards using remmington core-lockt 130 grain ammo. The gun was supposed to be dead on at 200 yards but it was shooting half an inch low. Never shot over a quarter inch to the left or right. The bullet holes would always touch the black center line. Good enough for me.

I ended up taking a mule deer on the run at 200 yards. It was dead on and only took one shot.

Hi guys, wondering what you all think would be a good scope to put on my 700 with bull barrel, in 22-250 cal.

Thanks in advance, JIM :banghead:

laminated stock

I just purchased a 700 BDL with a laminanted stock in .270 with a Nikon pro-staff on top ,it's still on layaway about a $100 to go. My question is , I haven't seen any 700's with this stock, i even looked at Remigton's web site
and it was not listed as a choice for a stock, did i get an oddball or does anyone else have one like it ?

tired traveler

i think a scope on a rifle depends a lot on what you want to do with it.

for my 700 i picked bushnell 6500 elite, 2.5-16x. Very nice scope. 2.5 for shooting things close, 16x for distance and paper.
