I recently purchased a new 700 BDL 30-06 and I have a Redfield Revolution 3-9x with a 50mm lens to mount on it. I mounted the bases and lapped the rings which all turned out great. The problem I am having is with the front ring being slightly too far farword for the scope to fully seat. It doesn't appear to be much more than 1-2mm too much but it is enough to damage the scope if I attempted to attach the top half of the ring. I'm using Leupold STD High Rings (49904) and STD Rem 700 bases (50016). I believe these are correct for the rifle but should I be using a front Extension ring?

Not saying you don't know what you're doing, but did you maybe put the rear base on backwards? I've always had plenty of room to adjust for eye relief. The point where the ring attaches with the beveled screws should be toward the front of the rifle.

Judging by your rifle I guess I just need to find a different model front base.

looks that way. Or buy a short action rifle to put that one on ;) (logic to use with the wife; "But honey, I have this perfectly good scope ring base that I can't return, and throwing it away is wasteful, so I'm gonna get another rifle that'll make use of it")

Don't think you need an extended base, but a reversible front base (Leupold 50018) should work and also look a whole lot better in the looks department than an extended one.
