can get one with scope for 185, buy it? or is this the worst piece of junk ever made? I know nothing about these rifles, thought maybe could trade it or sell it for a little profit, thoughts?

It is a piece. But I have never seen one that wasn't capable of holding at least 1.5MOA. They are cheaply made, have bad triggers, the action is rough as a cob, and they're butt ugly...but a person could shoot one ten times a year for fourty years and they'd have their money's worth and much more. It would make a nice gift to some new hunter. Don't expect to make more than $20-$40 on a resale, but that's not exactly chunk-change. It could make a good truck gun too. For that price, I would gift it for sure. There is no doubt in my mind that you know of someone that would love to have it for Christmas.

for a few dollars more get a Stevens 200, quality, accurate, whole lot bettter action than the 710 or 770 (both junk). I put a nice walnut Boyds stock on mine and even though I am fortunate to own some nice firearms it always goes to the deer lease with me. I am at deer camp now, got 2 Ruger No. 1s with me and the 3rd rifle is that cheap tack driving Stevens 200 im 7mm-08.

Everything about the 770 is shotty. Even IF you replace the stock, the trigger is just God-Awful. I still can't believe that Remington put their name on it.

I agree with the Stevens 200. After some Christmas $$$$ comes my way, that's what I'm getting. All the same, if you want a cheap truck-gun, the 770 for 185 might be alright. I wouldn't pay over $200 for it though.

I agree that it's the worst current production bolt action on the market, and fairly easily so. However, I wouldn't be opposed to owning one at all, ever. I would NEVER have one as a primary use rifle, and I would NEVER buy one for it's new price, which is essentially the same as the Marlin X7 or the Axis, which are twice the gun for about the same price.

However, for $185 with a scope, assuming it does function properly, and it isn't beaten up or many hundreds of rounds into its life, I'd possibly buy one as a back-up. If you're looking for a go-to rifle for hunting, training, or even just plinking, then pass on it. If you already have options that fulfill those kinds of needs, this is a good deal for a back-up.

It's not the equivalent to a Jennings or anything. It'll likely work just fine. But like the others said, the stock, trigger, action, etc., are far from ideal.

For that price you'll be OK. They are not the greatest rifle, if long term use is your goal. But for the guy who only shoots a box or 2 of ammo a year and for informal hunting they do work. Not what I'd trust for a once in a lifetime out of state big game hunt.

The Stevens 200, Marlin XL or XS series as well as Savage or Weatherby Vanguard are much better quality at very little more if buying new.

The Remington 770, Ruger American, Savage Axis and the Mossberg bolt rifles are all disposable rifles. Take your pick, they all work and perform equally and sell for about the same price. For some reason the Remington gets trashed on the internet while the others get a pass for the exact same quality.

I suppose $185 with scope is a decent price for one. I'm not sure because I never priced one. I wouldn't own one if it were free. Yes, it is the worst piece of junk ever made. At least I can't think of any centerfire rifle ever offered that was lower quality.

To date I have met exactly ONE person that was happy with their 770 he had never owned another centerfire rifle, and he did not shoot very far, he could care less about it's groups so long as he could hit a deer with it out to 100 yds he was happy. Some people are really easy to please, I am a bit more picky then that.

$185.00? I'd get it, if for nothing more than a "loaner" or a back-up rifle. And you never know until you shoot it as to how accurate it might be. Some folks have reported experiencing adequate accuracy or better with the Remington Model 770 rifle.

most of those people probably cant afford much, some people only own one or 2 rifles, I am lucky I own quite a few and can look in my safe and choose 2or 3 to take to my deer lease. I love a beautiful, accurate rifle with walnut stocks...old school I guess.
