Picked this up a couple weeks ago from the local Big 5 Sports store. I had an HD model when they first came out several years ago but later sold it to fund another purchase. I noted a few changes from the original iteration:

1. Instead of the receiver being marked "Remington 870 Express" it now just says "Remington 870"

2. Instead of the original Field forend they've gone to the Police-type forend.

3. Sling attachment points added.

4. The muzzle is now even with the mag tube instead of the mag tube sticking out slightly ahead of the muzzle (as with the one I had previously).

5. The J-Lock is gone.

So has the barrel been lengthened somewhat or is it the mag tube that's been cut back on these?

It seems to me from looking at mine vs. an older 870 Police, that they shortened the mag tube. I will have to go measure it now, to make sure. How do you like yours so far? Done much shooting?

Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but hopefully soon.

Funny, I never see these HD models without the extended mag, although Remington apparently still makes the short-mag version.

Can you keep us posted after your range session. My 870 Express that I picked up a few months ago jammed a dozen times or so while trying to eject the spent shells. It took about 150 rounds to break it in. Now it's flawless. Found out that there's a sharp corner on the ejection port side of the receiver where the forend rail slides into that was catching on the rail. Now that it's worn in, there's been no problems. Just want to know if it's a common issue with new Expresses.
