A fellow member requested I post my 870 setup to see what it looks like, specifically what the TLR-1 is like mounted on a shotgun. I prefer it to the Surefire forend, which I found painful to shoot after any amount of practice.

This is UTG Tri-Rail barrel and mag tube mount. It can be used as a mag tube clamp to hold the mag tube. It has a piece that will fit over the barrel and held by 4 hex screws. I didn't use it that way because of the heat shield. The holes in the rail are for a quick detachable sling swivel. Made of aluminum. Cost about $20.

Thanks. What did you find painful with the SureFire forened? Would it smack your support hand under recoil?

Also, what kind of sling and light mount is that?

I needed to see this. I have a Rem 870 Tactical and needed to figure out how to add my M6 to it!

Thanks!

Yeah, my left forefinger would hurt for a week or so after only a few shells downrange. As cool as I thought the forend looked, I just couldn't use it for practice, especially with the Knoxx stock on the shotgun. That made it twice as bad.

The sling mount is actually part of the Scattergun Tech magazine extension, which I purchased from MidwayUSA.

The light mount is a Streamlight adapter for the Remington 870, that just goes under your magazine cap/tube extension. It says it's just for the Streamlight M-3, M-5, and M-6 series, but the TLR-1 fits just fine. That should make Doc happy, since it was actually designed for the M-6. Now, it looks cheap, but it's holding up very well so far.

Hope that helps!

Per the Knoxx website:

Shooters with Surefire® Forends installed on their shotguns may experience sharp recoil on their weak hand against the lamp housing. This is due to the rearward movement of the shotgun over the pistol grip. We recommend that you hold the forend at least 1.5 inches back from the lamp housing to avoid this painful action.

I found that moving my hand back that far on the forend left me without as much control over the forend as I'd like. I'd rather be able to rack the slide than to make sure the SureFire™ forend doesn't cause me pain.

Question...I've owned a TLR-1 and REALLY liked it. I almost ordered that mount. You have the same extention I use...question is the ball detent in the BBL lug secures the extention (well helps it stay screwed on anyway in theory) I assume this is defeated with this mount? (yes/no?) Also do you have or have you had any issue with the extention loosening up under longer range sessions with full power loads ect?

The Laserlyte shotgun Tri-Rail mounting system is very good. It mounts on the mag tube, has a bottom rail and R and L side rails, flashlight mounts in close to the shotgun for less snag possibility. They only cost about $18. The UTG Tri-Rail mounts is good also for the same reasons and it is more durable, $20. Two very good light mounts that brings the flashlight in close to the shotgun and has Tri-Rails.
