Here's the deal.
There's been stories running wild about Remington going "PC" and not selling Law Enforcement shotguns to "Civilians".
An email to Remington asking about purchasing a LE 870 will get a response telling you to go to a Remington Dealer and have them order whichever LE 870 you want from a Remington LE Wholesaler.
Here's the problem:
First some dealers have heard the rumors and believe them. They actually think Remington has restricted sales of LE shotguns, so they just don't bother to try getting them.
Second, FFL dealers usually buy most of their stock from one or two wholesalers. They pick up the phone and call an order in, the wholesaler ships the order, and they settle-up at the month's end.
The problem with this is that not all dealers, even Remington authorized dealers, buy from a wholesaler who is ALSO a Remington LE wholesaler.
Not all Remington Wholesalers are LE wholesalers.
The problem is, some dealers just don't want to go to all the trouble of ordering from a different wholesaler than they usually deal with.
They have to spend time and money calling around trying to find a Wholesaler who has Remington LE guns, making up and mailing a letter with a signed copy of his FFL, and paying higher shipping charges for a one-time order.
So, some actually believe the no-civy sales stories, and some just don't want the bother, so they tell you they can't get it.
Again, find a FFL dealer who buys from a Remington LE Wholesaler, or a dealer who is willing to go the the trouble of ordering from one.
