I have posted this other places, but was curious. I took two of these away from the job many years ago. Got them new & cheap. :what:

The guns are marked "Police Magnum", and have both parkerized steel and "furniture." Wood...parkerized!

5-shot cap kinda blows, but what I was told, are that the "Police" models are better built, and that Remington today, just doesn't have the quality, as when they built the "Police Magnums."

Thanks! :scrutiny:

I don't know when our duty shotguns were made (2004-ish), but they are marked police magnum.

Are they not making them anymore? I didn't find anything special about them. High recoil and a lot of muzzle flash out of the short barrel when using buck or slugs.

No mistake, you have two very good guns. It is simply an 870 Police Model with a 3" chamber. The quality of the Police models is much more on a par with the Wingmasters than the Expresses, which are made to a price point. Everyone bemoans Remington's lack of quality because the Expresses are made to go out the door as cheaply as possible - and they sell like hotcakes. I have not seen an issue with other Remingtons other than the occasional glitch that got out the door, which all manufacturers experience from time to time. You just don't hear about all the guns with no issues.
All the talk about "Police" parts being heavier duty compared to a Wingmaster is hooey, except for the magazine spring with extended capacity magazines. Look at the parts list. They both use forged machined parts, which is heavy duty enough. Yes the Expresses do have several different parts.
The wood may be painted to match the receivers, but you cannot Parkerize wood. Parkerizing is a phosphate coating process applied to metal to help protect it It is not rough and has a distinctive greenish tone. A lot of people think that anything that isn't polished blue is Parkerized, but most of the time it is just a cheaper, rougher, less polished finish. A lot of police models are Parkerized.

My Police Magnum is on par with my Wingmaster...right down to the bluing.

Bottom pic looks just like my Police Issue 870 Wingmaster. Great deal too, my friend is a dentist for a major metroplex jail. We've been friend since high school, one day we were hanging out and he whips this out and asks me would I like it. I said heck yeah. He swapped off some dental work for it. He has so many high end weapons on another visit he gives me a MAK 90. Really helped me add to and round out my collection of specific use weapons. Evidently he was listening, when we discussed weapons! A great bud!

I am not a "tactical" shotgun fan at all, but it is nice to see a blued Police model not loaded down with all manner of contraptions for a change. Looks like it has been well taken care of too. Excellent visual proof to me that you don't need a plastic stocked gun that you use as a boat paddle and to beat snakes off to have a truly tough gun. Or to maybe look tough yourself.

Thanks...my thoughts exactly. The only thing I've added is the magazine extension and (since the pic) a Limbsaver pre-fit recoil pad. I also have a 28" Mod. blued vent rib barrel for it. It will have no other doo-dads.
