Remington factory detachable magazines?

Anyone have any first hand experience with a long action remington factory DM system?

I have an older ADL in .270 that I have wanted to restock for quite some time. It's got sentimental value to it, and it's my go-to deer rifle.

Where I hunt up in the Adirondacks, we typically hunt in large groups, and when walking in/out of different spots the guy in the lead is the only one with a loaded gun. Because of this, I end up loading/unloading sometimes up to a dozen times a day. I can't tell you how many times I've dropped shells, and I also have a different rifle with a floor plate, and I drop them with that one as well. I hate digging shells out of the snow and would really like a DM rifle.

I've read the poor reviews on the Kwik Clip conversion kits. I'm not interested in one of those. I also don't want to spend the $$$ on a HS Precision kit if I'm going to restock it as well. Brownell's has the factory DM floorplate and magazines for really cheap, and stockysstocks.com has blem 700 CDL DM stocks for a good price as well, so I'm thinking about converting to the factory DM system. If this will work reliably, I can restock and get the conversion kit for about the same amount of $$$ as just the HS conversion kit.

I have read a few reviews saying the factory DM system isn't good, but they mostly seemed to be related to short action guns. Also no one really stated why they weren't good, or what was wrong with them.

Anyone have any first hand experience with a long action remington factory DM system?

Don't know about the 700 270 DM. But have a Remington 700 Stainless synthetic in 7mm STW with the factory detachable magazine set up. It has been flawless for me in the dozen years I've owned it.

I may be wrong, but I do not think it is practical to convert your ADL to factory DBM. Given enough money and time anything is possible. If I understand right the rifles made for the factory detachable mags do not have feed rails. They are on the magazine. Since your rifle has rails on it it would be very difficult. I could be wrong however.

It would be a fairly simple job to buy the bottom metal to convert it to BDL and have a hinged floorplate.

as of today they are $35.90 plus the clip(s) for your cartridge are about $45 each, vary per caliber. We are not planning on carrying the conversion kits at this time as these stocks are a one-time deal.

I hope I was wrong as well. Surely they would not sell a combination of parts that will not work together. They should refund your money if they did. Since you have to call Remington to order the parts I would ask them if the conversion will work.

I ended up buying the parts from Brownell's, they had them in stock. If I can't get it to work, I'll get refunded and buy a regular BDL stock and start saving for the HS kit..........I hope I don't have to do that though. Thanks for the heads up!!

You got me curious so I checked. My 700 7mm STW DM has feed rails on the receiver. Just compared them to my 700 SS BDL 338 Win they look identical. And both have a machined flat on the bottom of the feed rails.

I have a Remington 700 Police in .308 with the DM option. At first it seemed kind of cool to have it however after shooting with it I have had problems with occaisional doublefeeds especially at the second-to-last shell in the mag, which sends both of them into the chamber. I only have the one mag so it may be a mag problem, but the "cool" factor of being able to change out mags is kind of cancelled out by the possibility of a jam. My Mausers with box mag have never given any trouble. Oh well, price was right. Now I need to find some decently priced short-action magazines.
