Hey this is my first post here, I read the forum a lot since there is so much info here, and since I just bought my 1st rifle I was hoping someone would have an answer to a few questions I have.

I just picked up a 700 SPS DM in .308, found it for the right price and finally decided to "pull the trigger" and get it. It is a DM, so the stock looks different than a normal SPS, which leads me to a few questions.

Is it possible to get an aftermarket stock for a SPS and maybe use a dremel to modify the stock so it fits the DM model?

Is it possible to turn the DM into a hinged floorplate, so I could install aftermarket stocks easier?

Is it possible to install something like a HS Precision conversion kit and a HS Precision stock, basically just keeping the 700's action and barrel?

I'm hoping something is possible, I figured getting a 700 would allow me to tinker with aftermarket products since I know there is a lot out there, I'm hoping I'm right!

Welcome to THR!

No modification needed, IF you want to convert to a hinged floor plate from the DM model, get the SPS hinged floor plate(HFP) from Remington, get a HFP type stock, install your barreled action and bottom metal and your done.

As for the 700, I can't see any handicap with the SPS DM and aftermarket stocks, look around.

Yes.....

Mike,

notice the difference between the SPS stock,

and the SPS DM stock,
http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-700/model-700-sps-dm.aspx

see the little cut out on the DM's stock? where the magazine goes. That's why i asked about using a dremel. And I havent found any aftermarket stocks that have that cut out like that.

I hope getting a new stock and bottom metal like you said would work though, thanks for the advise!

Welcome to the HighRoad Delacroix515, can you show picture of mag release on the stock, does this resembles what you have?

on the same website let me quote
"Detachable Box Magazine stocks are easily fashioned from BDL stocks by simply filing the slots for the magazine release buttons (see photo) and retouching the area to match. Detachable mag-fed rifles are also convertable to non-clip-fed guns and vice-versa. In fact all Remington rifles are convertable (i.e. ADL > BDL > CDL > DBM, etc.) by simply purchasing the appropriate parts."

I have a Model 700 BDL SA (black synthetic) stock that I relieved to take the detachable magaine. It is made by Remington. I will sell it for $55 shipped if you want it.
