Remington M552 .22 auto rifle!

Anyone have one, especially of recent manufacture? Do you have a 'scope on it? Which, mounted how?

How does it shoot and function? Is it a sound choice as a squirrel rifle, or is the accuracy too "casual", just for plinking?

What is your overall impression of the rifle? Would you buy it again, knowing what you do having owned one?

With the demise of Weatherby's .22 auto years ago, this seems one of the nicer .22 autos, and it must have something going for it, or it wouldn't still be made. I think it was introduced in the 1950's, in plainer form.

They are excellent rifles. Mine was both reliable and accurate. It's accuracy was equal to my bolt action 500 series Remingtons.
I put a 3-9 Nikon on it for a while and later went back to open sights.
I let a friend use it for a while and she promptly let it get stolen from her truck.
Would I buy another? Yes.

I have an early 1980s BDL version with no scope.

It prefers copper washed bullets to all lead, for reliability's sake. Otherwise, it functions well with short, long, and long rifle ammo, even mixed in one tube.

I can't recall group sizes since I haven't used it in a while, but it's quite good.

I have an early-80's ADL. I have never put a 'scope on it, as I am happy using its iron sights. It is a fun and accurate weapon, and was the second gun my dad gave to me.
