Has anyone purchased the factory Remington synthetic stock replacments
for the Model 700?

The Cabellas close to me doesn't stock any of them and the catalog just
lists them as a fibreglass reinforced synthetic stock. I know the quality won't
be as good as the HS Precision stocks they put on their Senderos, law enforcement line, etc. but has anyone bought one to report on the quality?

They also have three different types: the regular synthetic, then the SPS
and then the XCR. Which one(s) have you used?

I have twosythetic stocked 700s.
first one is a stainless synthetic 700 BDL (pre SPS crap) and the stock is molded plastic. It seems a little cheap, but it works, is comfortable to shoot, but its made in two pieces and then glued together so a seam runs the full length on the top and bottom. mine had a bit of an edge along this seam that scratched my cheek, so a little 400 grit paper took care of it. At some point i will either get an HS sporter stock or something like it.
my second is a new titanium 700, it has a much better stock that seems to be a single piece kevalar type. it has a slight texture to it that gives it a good grip but is still pretty smooth. I like this stock much better then the BDL synthetic and it needs nothing done. I will keep this stock on tis rile as it is very light in keeping with the idea of the titanium action.

hope this helps

I've got 4 of the cheap (molded plastic) Rem 700 synthetic stocks. They came with the Rem 700 ADLs and the Rem 700 ML. I've replaced two of them with HS precision stocks, which is definitely a significant upgrade.

These stocks are tough and will last a long time and take some abuse. However, they don't hold bedding very well, and a couple years after I had my 30-06 bedded and barrel floated, things had shifted around and the accuracy was in the tank because of inconsistent contact points between the stock and the gun. So I switched my 30-06 and .308 to the HS precision stocks.

My .223 ADL still wears the factory original stock and has never had a problem shooting MOA groups with no modification at all to the gun other than a trigger job. I think the lower energy of the round sets up less vibration in the gun and makes things less sensitive to shifting stock contact. The smaller hole in the barrel probably also makes it stiffer.

The molded plastic synthetic stocks are very servicable, and if 2 MOA is good enough, they will work fine. If you want sub-MOA and don't ever want to get bit by a shift in impact point, you'll need a stock with an aluminum bedding block or one that will hold onto a glass bedding job.

I have to agree that the Rem. stock is usable but not my choice. I've gone to Wild Dog carbon fiber stocks myself. But then to be honest, I get a discount.
