I am new poster. I have lurked on THR for years. I never thought I would be able to wear out an old but well kept 1913 vintage Remington Model 11 (12 ga, 30", modified). It has been in family since 1960. However after shooting several rounds of trap recently, the magazine cap has started popping straight off the mag tube. Not turning, just pulling straight over the threads, as in worn or stripped threads. Experienced local gunsmith concurred that the mag tube threads were worn out. Cap appears to be OK. He had never seen it either. Questions: Is the mag tube silver soldered into receiver or is it screwed and held with set screws?? Is it even worth the idea of replacing the tube if I can find a parts gun? Or there other alternatives?
