Remington Mod. 1100 Serial Numbers

I have a Remington Model 1100 20 gauge with 28" plain barrel. The serial # is
L4911--X. The letters AYU are on the left side of the barrel. What I have found on the internet is very confusing. It's in excellent condition. I would
like to know when it was born and what type, or grade is it call? Probably
Field grade, or I hope higher. Thanks! julybug

You have a standard size (built on the 12 gauge sized receiver) Model 1100, 2-3/4" model, and the barrel was made in March 1974. It is very likely that is the original barrel to that gun as well. Without any other markings on the gun and no pictures and with that plain barrel it is almost certainly a standard field grade model.
