I recently inherited a Remington Model 11. Serial number is 370129. On right side of barrel is stamped RER and a small stamped "anchor" symbol. There is a choke--made by THE POLY CHOKE CO. Hartford Conn.-Patented. Looks to be in good condition.
What can you tell me about this gun and how much is it worth. And what is the best way to go about selling it.
Thanks.

It is a long-recoil operated design of John Browning's. Pretty much the same as the Browning A-5.

No way to even begin to estimate value without knowing the condition of the gun.

But, the Poly-choke will hurt the value considerably.

Heres a halfway decent one with a Cutts that just sold for $166 bucks.

Your best bet on selling it would be to walk it around a gunshow.
Or advertise it in a local "shopper" type paper.

Thanks RCMODEL the guns looks to be in as good shape or better than the one sold in the link. What does the anchor symbol mean--was this a NAVY ISSUE gun used in the war--

I couldn't tell you right off hand, but I imagine it is just a proof-mark.

A lot of civilian Model 11's were pressed into service during WWII for use in aerial gunnery training.

However, those guns were marked with a U.S. stamped in the left side of the receiver, along with the flaming bomb ordinance acceptance stamp.

The navy didn't use anchor stamps.
And the ordinance dept. didn't stamp the barrels, just the receivers, as far as I recall.

Not a Navy gun. rcmodel's advice, as usual, is good. Best to try a face to face sale. Typically a ball park value is between $150 and $300 depending very much on condition. Pictures would help, but that's an idea.
Ultimately it's worth what someone will pay for it.

Every Model 11 12 gauge I have ever seen has had the anchor on it. I dont know what it means.

The anchor was a proff mark stamped on it after final inspection in the plant. It's like the little tag you find in the pocket of a new pair of pants that say "inspected".
