Remington Model 33. No serial number?

I just got a old Remington Model 33. I found the date code of PA, so I know its from June of 1932, but I can't find the serial number anywhere. I took the stock off too and still didn't see it. Since '32 was the first year of production I wanted to see how low of a serial number I have because I like that kind of thing.

I didn't know that. The only problem I have with that is Remingtons website show that they got serial numbered somewhere...be it on the rifle or elsewhere...because they have serial number blocks from 1 - 263600.

I just did a few Google searches and here's my guess - the earlier ones don't have numbers and the later ones do. The few mentions I've found of serial numbers are in the upper half of the number range. Here's one:

It's odd how it worked. I've got a model 33 NRA Junior version with no ser#. And a while back picked up a messed-up model 34 to try fixing, and it is numbered on the receiver ring.

I've seen a lot of old .22 rifles with no ser#, Remingtons and Springfields. From what I've heard, a lot from other makers weren't numbered, either.

I've got my dad's model 33 he had new as a kid. That model. along with many other Remington arms of the times had no serial #s, just using a date code that used "Blackpowder" as references to years and months. There is a good description of this in the back of the Dixie Gun Works catalog. Remington also verifies this in an owners manual copy they will send to you upon request. The code on my rifle is on the bottom of barrel, just ahead of the forearm. You may need a glass to read it, very small. Having a serial number on the receiver of said rifle sounds suspicious to me. Good little gun, and is actually a design by John Browning.

The basic function with the bolt safety or something else about the gun, or was most/all of the rifle his design? Was the Model 34 also John Browning?

According to the literature sent to me by Remington, John Browning designed the Model 1900 single shot, bolt action for Winchester. Other companies made their own based on his design.

Having a serial number on the receiver of said rifle sounds suspicious to me.

My dad bought his Model 33 new, it was in his possession till he died, I took the rifle out of his closet after he died, it has always been with me and my dad. The serial number of my dad's old Model 33 is just ahead of the bolt opening on the left side of the receiver, 203XXX.

I found out from a Model 33 fan that the lowest serial number he has seen marked on a Model 33 is in the 170xxx range. So somewhere in their production run they started marking them.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I need a rear ramp for mine- anyone know where to get one? Or what to spefically ask for?. Mine shoots sweet, is beat up and I haven't been able to find any numbers on it.

I have a low serial number...

I have a Remington Model 33 with a serial number of "12". Just thought the information might be useful in keeping track of exactly how many were made.

One note- I am desperately seeking a firing pin for this rifle. I cannot find one anywhere. If anyone knows where I can get one, or has one, please email me at [email protected]

Also, if anyone would like a picture verifying the serial, I can provide this. I was under the impression that they made 1000 of these, now I know I was incorrect.

My S# is on the left side of the receiver just behind the barrel/receiver joint. #194xxx, I think the barrel code is BD, will have to have a look at January of what year it was made. Sweet little shooter though....

Looks like January 1935.
