Ok I did a search here and only found two post about this and one was mine. So some info anout me first. I am looking at getting a new rifle which I will use for target, varmit, and possibly some big game hunting. I want to get a 308 in my new gun. At present I shoot a 300wm but a couple of years back I buggered my shoulder up and am finaly coming to terms with the fact that the 300wm hurts my shoulder to much and I'm going to end up missing or wounding an animal because I am going to develop a flinch. I realize that having one gun for all three aspects of shooting may be asking alot of one gun, but would like to limit myself to one perchase. I like the VTR because it has the muzzle break (which my shoulder would appreciate even if my ears don't) and when I'm at the bench I always wear ear protection anyways. When doing target shooting I will most likely not go beyond 500 yrds or so. I like the VTR also because the listing has it at 7.5 lbs which is very managable for me. A good scope and away I go. If it went big game hunting it would be used for elk and down sized game. My 300wm mag that I have right now weighs in at near 9.5 lbs with scope so weight isn't a problem for me. So what are some opinions on this rifle. Again I know its a new gun but am just curious what people think of it so far. Thanks for all your help.:)

WOW you want one of them? Me personaly I think they are UGLY. But that is me. Triangle barrel and all. The stock is nothing but injection molded plastic junk I bet is made in China. I have seen two of these rifles and one was priced at $1700 and one was priced at $765. Not sure way two gun stores less than 20 miles apart would have a $1000 price differance. If i were going to buy a remington right now I would get a VLS in 308win. Other than that I would go with a Savage right now. I am very upset with Remington and their new firearms. Higher prices lower quality I have been a life long Remington guy but that is not going to be the case anymore.

Learningman. Ive got on order a .22-250VTR it will be in in about 1.5 months
I think its great looking, I consinged a Kimber .223 single shot to pay for it,
(650 at sportsman ski haus Kalispell MT) is what Ill be paying.

Ill try to get a range report in when I have time.
Rem is known for their out of box accurace I dont seee why this wont be the same, I have 3 Model 700s all are fine rifles. Ithink the VTR is a porpose built rifle Hard core Varmiting, I plan on using mine for coyote hunting.

The store here has a .223 in stock now if your interested?

I have a Savage Model 10 XP Predator in 223 and I love it. I just want a little more punch for bigger animals without having to have such a long barrel and all the weight that goes with it. I kind of think that the gun looks pretty cool myself. Each to his own I guess. I have heard good and bad about almost every gun out there today. I think it sometimes comes down to the luck of the draw. I really just want one gun that can do more than one application. I will be more apt to shoot one gun that performs different task's well, more than shoot three guns that are designed for one perpose alone. I don't reload so buying ammo for one gun cuts down on cost in the long run as well. And even though the muzzel break adds more noise, I believe the benefits out weigh the cost in my case.

I think I'll let someone else test the triangle barrel gimmick. If it was such a hot ticket, all the BR and F-Class guys would be shooting them. IMHO.

You might want to consider the Tikka T3 Varmint in .308. I just picked one up a couple of weeks ago and like it a lot so far. I've only put 10 rounds through it as I'm trying to break the barrel in properly and that takes time. But it shoots very well and has a wonderfully smooth bolt. It's also under 8 lbs, about 9.5 with a scope, really quite manageable. I bought it as a range/deer/boar gun, as it's got a heavy barrel for range shooting but is really light enough to tote around. $748 at my local gun shop in stainless.
