Has anyone ever used Remington primers in your lee pro 1000? Is there a real difference between CCI/Winchester and Remington that makes it dangerous to use in the lee pro 1000 or is it a marketing partnership thing?

Just wondering because i found 200 Remington small pistol primers for my .40
but i don't want to use them if its a bad idea.

also is it possible to use small magnum primers in a .40 via spacial loads or sum thing?

Primers

It Shouldn't hurt a thing to use remington. Remington uses them in their ammo. I've used some Remington Benchrest primers in some of my 223 ammo.

Rem 1-1/2 small pistol shouldn't be used in the 40 S&W.

Can you explain why? Are they just a smaller small pistol primer or sum thing?

I have used Remington small pistol in my Lee Pro 1000, and I load it in .40 and 9mm. After many thousands of rounds I have never had any issue in either my loader or my .40 USP. Personally, I haven't found much difference with same pistol primers, I just buy what's available. Now for my .223 I only use CCI 450.
YMMV

I did have primer detonation twice in my Lee Loadmaster, both times Remington small pistol primers and both times my fault. I was not keeping the priming assembly clean and had a piece of walnut media on the primer seat punch. My fault, never happened again.

Thanks guys ill give it a try.

Anyone ever used small magnum primers in a .40? CCI 550.

I've experiment a lot using mag primers in rifles that call for standard primers with varying success, and no mishapps.

I have never had the stones to try mag primers in 9X19 or 40SW because they are already such high pressure rounds. There is precious little wiggle room with standard primers. Why push your luck?

Primers

I use small rifle primers in my son's STI 40 limited pistol because of the pressures that it is loaded to. This helps to insure better ignition and rifle primers are a little harder than pistol primers. This helps to not have cratered primers when the pressures get to high.

I have worked up 40 S&W loads with remington sp and magnum small pistol primers and both performed fine. Just make sure you work up the load and do not start out with a max load and swap out the primers.
