After many shenanagans in finally getting the darned thing to arrive, I finally managed to get my new R1 Enhanced doublestack (15 + 1 .45 ACP) to the range.

First, gun was real nice it fit, tight with a trigger a bit better than my Kimbers. Tiny bit of grit that is already smoothing out.

There are a few spots where the coating wasn't applied evenly but they are hard to see and don't bother me.

Took it right from the shop to the range, quickly wiped the packing grease and lubed it up and ran about 250 of my FMJ handloads (230 plated over 6.0 Unique) with nary a hitch. Didn't even start gumming up at the end, which new 1911s tend to do for me in rainy conditions (it was raining). Also ran 35 fed HST through, no problem.

Accuracy was great, getting inch sized groups at 12 yards from the bench, I bet it could do better in a better shot's hands. Mostly, free hand I was 2-3 inches, which is good for me. Problem was it shoots so nice and soft I had a heck of a time keeping slow and steady, it just wants to shoot fast!

Ran a number if drills from the holster and found I had no problem keeping all my shots on my 8' target even at as fast as I can shoot. Normally I have to slow down a bit with my 1911s. I'd have to dig out my numbers and timer, but I felt as fast with good hits as I do with my 9mm Glocks and Sigs, so thats pretty neat.

Recoil, for me, was negligible. Not sure if it was the weight (doubtful as my Kimber Warrior weighs the same) or the wider grip giving me better traction (my guess) but it really shot soft.

I had a great time and can't wait for the next trip, I can already tell this thing is gonna find time as an EDC and nightstand gun.

Happy camper, I am.

I only have one picture; first mag. You can see where I got excited and shooting faster!

These are not the same magazines that Para or (very old) Kimber double-stacks, right? I think Para only held 14. So, how many types of double-stack .45 magazines do we have nowadays?

They seem pretty similar to the para 14 ones with a different baseplate and possibly follower. Allegedly the Para mags work fine in the R1. I have a mec gar 14 round mag on the way and will try it this weekend.

Got to the range mostly just to test the mec gar mag out. Fairly cold at around 22 degrees so I didn't stay out too long.

Ran about 60 of my hand loads plus a couole dozen of my older HST.

Ran fine with the 14 round para magazine, no issues at all.

At this point I am calling it good enough for carry and SD duty and will order another mec gar Para mag or two, as they conceal MUCH easier than the bigger Remington mags.

Got one pic of the first mag of the day at 12 yards shooting not overly slow (probably a shot every 3/4 second or so). Not sure if I'm shooting high or I need to adjust the sights, might spend some time messing with it this weekend, as I didn't have a screwdriver today.
