Today I went to the range to try out my new Remington R1 Enhanced 1911A1. I was very pleased with the trigger pull and accuracy. This thing shoots where you point it. The ammunition used was a factory load, Magtech 230gr FMJ. As it was 100 degrees I only fired (5) eight round magazines. There were no stoppages of any kind. I can really appreciate the quality of the build as compared to my Springfield Armory GI 1911A1.
The problem I ran into is that the fiber optic rod in the front sight is "walking" out under recoil. Here is picture of what it looks like after shooting eight rounds. I would like to seek the opinion of my fellow High Roaders as to what I should do. Should I pursue warranty coverage from Remington or just find a way to Loctite it into place?

A drop of Super-Glue should fix it.

That is all that has kept the whole front sight on my Walther p22 for 8 years.

Get a "bulbed" replacement fiber from Dawson Precision and "mushroom" the free end with a hot knife like they show in the instructions.

I drilled the front sight on my Romanian TTC, filed the middle away, and inserted a fiber. World of difference better shooting steel plates with it.

I tried super glue, it may stand up to a .22lr but didn't stop the movement on my .45. Eventually the ends break from the stress, that is why they sell replacement fibers. The super glue did make it much harder to slide in a replacement fiber.

Get some new fiber rod ( maybe from Remington for free). There are two sizes so you need to find what you have. http://czcustom.com/Fiber-Optic-Rod.aspx Here is the easy way to install. Stick a piece through the sight that is a little long so it sticks through the breech side of the slide just a tad. Take a BBQ lighter and heat that end until it makes a little bulb. Pull the fiber rod toward the muzzle end of the gun and it shouldn't pull through. Now take some finger nail clippers and snip off the excess in front leaving enough rod to heat up and make another little bulb. You shouldn't be able to get the rod out without cutting it. Just so you know the fiber rods will get dull and need changed out once in awhile anyway. You can cut them with a razor blade when you need to get them out. Here's a pic where you can see what I mean. http://www.1911store.com/ProductImages/40-054L.gif More info. http://www.dawsonprecision.com/images/Instructions/OpticInsertInstall.jpg

If it's still long enough just flip it around and heat the end closest to the muzzle as described above. A regular BIC will work, just read the Dawson instructions to avoid damaging the rod. So easy, I was able to not screw it up...the second time. (Just kidding, it really is straight forward).
