Remington RM-380

I have one. The first two magazines shot fine but the mag release fell out when removing the second magazine. When it comes back from Remington it will stay in the safe for show and tell since I will not sell a gun that I expect to be a problem for the next owner.

Two magazines? That's an out of the box fail. I'd shoot the daylights out of it when you get it back to see if the problem is gone for good.

Don't get me started about all my other new name brand guns that I've had to fix. After getting them fixed up, I've kept them and I shoot them because they became fully functional guns.

By the way, I'm betting the biggest problem people had with the RM380 is with the take down pin sliding out while gingerly moving the slide with no lube on the take down pin.

That happened to my RM380 when I first bought it and handed it to a friend to shoot. He babied the slide while leaning the gun to the left, so the pin walked into the hole in the frame. Same guy babied the action on my SKS a few weeks later causing a double feed jam. How the heck do you jam an SKS?

Anyway. Grease the take down pin and grease the frame holes where the pin goes. Rack the slide firmly to chamber a round and shoot the gun. Don't baby it.

Remington only lightly oils the gun when it comes from the factory. Sometimes I really hate Remoil in the warm southern USA, it can run out of the gun like rubbing alcohol. Remoil (and others like it) shouldn't be used on the RM380 takedown pin, IMO.

I've never had the pins walk out of either 2 of my RM380s but the first thing I did upon receiving them was disassemble and clean them and when I put them back together I used Lubriplate on the pin and in the lug cam, and the slide rails.

That might explain why I've never had it happen to me.

I bought one for the wife last year when they had $100 rebates, so $165 shipped. She has some difficulty with shooting tiny DAO pistols accurately, but it runs great and is capable of good accuracy mechanically. I thought about grabbing a second one, as I really do like them, but my DB9 is still slimmer & lighter with more punch, so unless they evolve into an RM9 without growing externally, probably not gonna happen

This is neither here nor there, but they sure are handsome looking pistols for the price. I like the look of them a lot.

Sounds like it’s ok, but that floating pin seems odd to me.

It's a deal breaker for some, and that's okay. I've passed on other firearm types due to a feature or quirk they had or didn't have, that's for sure.

I was leery at first too but after a few range trips, carrying it and using it I don't really think about the pin other than when disassembling it. Think about how fast that pin would have to move sideways to get into that hole in the slide during the firing of the weapon. You only have to be aware of the pin if you are slow cycling the slide by hand AND have not greased the pin AND have it tipped so the left side is down. If you manipulate the slide crisply then the pin is never a factor IMHO.

I never said I didn’t shoot it....in fact I was the second person to use the range rental when they first came out. It wasn’t for me,I didn’t have any problems with the 50 rounds I shot. The range rental was sent back twice for repairs. The shop no longer sells the rm380 but will order it for anyone. They have sold 300 of them,I think that’s more than enough for a shop to decide it’s not worth it for them to deal with the problems .
Wow. Your lgs has sold 300 of these? According to the 2015 release date of the RM380 that would be about 2 guns a week sold by your lgs. Did you say that they send back 1 gun a week to Remington? You'd think that a gun with a 50% failure rate would have garnered more negative reviews.

I don't know. You haven't mentioned how many they sent back. Both my RM380 and my P365 have been 100%. I must be extremely lucky.

Rumor has it that all RM380s that fail quality control inspection are shipped to Philadelphia.
