Just came across a Remington Wingmaster Magnum 12 guage Serial #V826401M. Looking at the pics it looks in really good shape. The barrel length is unkown from the seller. I don't know the year (have not yet called Remington) but wanted to get someone opinion on what would be a good deal. I believe they are asking $350. Thanks.

Well, the barrel makes a HUGE difference. Get the year from Remington; find out what barrel it would have come with if you can.

The Wingmaster has been in production since 1950. The Magnum is a tad more recent, but not much, at least as seen from 2007.

If the barrel is the old heavy one which I don't like, or is a fixed choke you don't want, or an old polychoke, or whatever, then you're looking at a new barrel. Might as well just get a new Wingmaster if you have to replace the barrel with a new one.

So it all depends...:)

As a side note, those new in box 870 Express with laminated stock for $239 with 26 inch Remchoke barrel is a hullava of a deal . I saw one and fit and finish is super . Of course, WM are the best esp if it has Remchoke barrel. THe sleekness is nothing comparable.

Called Remington it a 1982 Magnum that originally came with a 30" barrel and was the first year of the remington choke.

I have been looking at the 870 express and I really like them. Gander Mtn wants $299 for a 28" non-magnum....where did you happen to see them for $239 ??? At that price you can't go wrong.

I was at Academy SPorts store here in Houston. They have it all the time . I asked if they have on sale during holidays and they do but thats long ways. The price is reasonable. If you are eyeing the WM thats also good. But the Express is a great deal , too.

I would buy the used wingmaster over a brand new express any day. But that's me. I have a 20 ga 1957 vent rib 28" and a 12 ga slug barrel wingmaster.

If the used Wingmaster has screw-in chokes buy it! Almost all the used Wingmasters you'll find have fixed chokes. Production of new Wingmasters dropped like a rock after the Express came along so its hard to find newer ones with the screw-in chokes. Also. new Wingmaster barrels are very expensive.

I recently bought a used Wingmaster for $310. It was in excellent shape and strangely came with an 18" barrel and police walnut furniture. I called Remington and found it is was made in '81. Very cool shotgun.

Offer $300-325 and see what they say. Good luck.
