I have a 870 tact gun built out of an old wingmaster...great gun. I have it setup with the speedfeed IV (I think it's called) the pistol grip stock remington uses on their tactical guns now. This is the slightly shorter LOP "tactical" pistol-grip stock without the magazine/shell tubes. To me it handles and corners better than the full-sized stock. Remington offers these stocks with R3 recoil pads but I don't see the speedfeed size on the limbsaver website on any prefit pads. I'd like to add one...does anyone happen to know what part number/size fits these stocks or fits closest? I can't be the first guy to run into this. If nobody knows I'll call them monday and post results. I have a bud that runs a shoeshop up the street that routinely fits recoil pads for us (his equipment he grinds soles with works great for an otherwise messy labor intensive job) So I could order the grind to fit nearest size if need be...would rather just screw one on though.

PS- really great stock and the stock recoil pad isn't bad...it still reduces recoil over a standard stock to me...then again I added a wilson +2 and reciever side shell holder at the same time so it's heavier...that probably accounts for some of it. Faster on target though to me.

PSPS- Anyone know when surefire will be coming out with a new LED 870 forend setup...I refuse to drop $200 on the old one when there just has to be an LED version coming soon. I also don't like the newer versions feel as much as the old all black one. I refuse to buy a new one and buy and LED conversion off the bat...what are they waiting for? :cuss:

Remington's customer service is pretty good. I'd try to see if you can buy the R3 from them.

re: Surefire forends and LEDs.

Surefire are offering new generation LED flashlights,
I expect they'll be offering
LED versions for most of their other products in the next few months too.

Example - the G2 LED:

I don't know why they are waiting. Organizational inertia is probably a factor.
(You don't revamp your whole product line and all the P/N's in a few days,
not to mention phasing out all your old inventory...).

Classic example - they list an LED "upgrade" option for the 6P LED product.
Begs the question - why?

I had already invested in the halogen Surefire lamps, bought a few of these CREE LED lamps as an interrum option. Waiting on delivery, will be interesting.

Dang that is a good idea (call remington...duh) I'll call monday...maybe their parts dep. will sell me the pad...surely they have them...may require slight fitting on the shorty version but at least holes will be in the right spot and it should be close.

Also thanks to other poster on that link...I to have an aging 6P...I actually hadn't thought there might be an afforable aftermarket upgrade...let me know how it works and looks comparatively when it comes in...I'll likely order a couple

*- actually heck..for that price I couldn't wait...just ordered em...free shipping...gotta love it as a motivator!

I have an 870P with Wood on the way. I was thinking about a R3 also. One of the sites I looked at, stated the R3 won't fit the wood stock models.

Anyone confirm this? Or I will make a call also.

Well that's good to know. The 4888 is exactly what I will have next week.

I didn't look at the recoil pad when I was doing the paperwork. Thanks

jonboy,

Were I you, I'd pull the existing pad off that Speedfeed stock and see how it's fitted. A lot of the thin-walled synthetic stocks use a socket-fitted recoil pad, that is, the pad is ground so that a 'shoulder' of the recoil pad protrudes into the stock to strengthen it at the butt. That might complicate fitting a new pad and it's something that you need to know before you buy... won't cost anything but a few minutes with a Phillips screwdriver to find out.

hth,

Yup...remington had it short stock is part # 112752 with remington It's about $35 (the long/regular speedfeed stock one is a different number) I told em a dog chewed up mine-LOL Dealer price is a bit cheaper but with $8 S&H it's still about $35...so it costs a bit more but at least it will fit...and it does apear to be socketed...as the other poster said. I'll let you know how it works out. It also requires different screws...as I found when I ordered my speedfeed...luckily I had screws that fit the recoil pad...the supplied ones did not...for whatever reason. Hopefully speedfeed has solved that problem. Remington at least had noted it in their parts catalogue (heard the rep. read it out loud) Will report back on percieved recoil difference with the speedfeed vs. limbsaver pad when it comes in next week.

Part came in today. It is actually NOT socketted...neither is the original...I rolled the edge and it kinda looked that way earlier but after taking it apart it is not nor is the remington/limbsaver pad. Again the one the speedfeed came with was pretty nice...but I just screwed this one on and took it out back and pumped a few rounds through it...NICE! I noted some recoil reduction when I went to the speedfeed PG tactical stock in the first place (13" LOP...the short one from midway...no mag tubes or anything) Anyway the part fit right on and lined up fine. The holes where more slot shaped but I held it in place and snugged em up...perfect fit. $35 later I'm satisfied...notable recoil reduction...about as much as I expected a pad could do...more than I thought it probably would really do. Neat product...thumbs up. Would be great a .338 winmag ect:eek:
