I've got some real problems with my shoulder that make it really painful to shoot heavy recoiling guns now.
I was reminded this weekend WHY it's no longer fun to shoot buckshot out of my 870 Police gun.

I was recently reading about Remington's new R3 butt pad they're using on most of their guns now.

Do these really help that much?
Enough to justify the cost?

I see where Hogue's is also making a new "super pad".
Any better than the R3?

I give the R3's an "11 out of 10". :)

They are simply wonderful. I recently put one on my 870P and it makes all the difference in the world. I don't shoot SG too often so whenever I go out and shoot a few hundred rounds my shoulder gets bruised pretty bad. With the Limbsaver, not only is the recoil quite noticeably reduced, but my shoulder doesn't get bruised at all. Best $30 i ever spent on my SG. I like it so much I bought a spare to put away for the future in case they stop making them.

Is the R3 for synthetic stocks only?? Just wondering because I always see it advertised "for most synthetic stocks".

I just took a look and straight from the Remington website (Accesories, Factory Parts, R3):

Fits most Remington synthetic stocks for the following models:

RIFLES SHOTGUNS
Model 700 ADL Model 870 (12 & 16-ga)
Model 700 BDL Model 1100 (12 & 16-ga)
Model 700 LV SF Model 11-87
Model 700 ML Model SP-10
Model 710
Model 7600

They make a R3 for the wood and the synthetic stocks. I have one on each of my shotguns, and prefer the limbsaver after trying the the kickeez and the pachymar deaccelator.

WhiteKnight, yes the r3 is just a limbsaver for remington, nothing different. It is nice though, if your using a remington factory stock, you dont have to measure the recoil pad size, you can just order a R3. On the other hand, if you want one of thier pads for a different stock or gun, you have to compare dimensions and other little details like that. I have two r3, a slip on pad and ordered a limbsaver that is arriving this week for a houge cadet stock. I can highly recomond the limbsaver products without hesitation.

Is it very hard to install an R3 pad? I have a factory synthetic ADL stock that I may want to modify with one, but I've heard installing aftermarket recoil pads on any gun is a ton of hassle.

Not at all. They're literally "bolt-on" replacements for the standard factory buttpad.

Apparently all the synthetic Remington stocks are the exact same size at the butt so the R3 pads fit any Remington synthetic stock without any custom fitting needed.

Excellent. I do believe I'll be including one of those with my next Midway USA order. Thanks for the help!
