I have a model 1893, made in 1894, Mauser that was converted by the Turks in 1935. I am trying to remove the barrel assy so I can clean this up. Where I am hung up is at the muzzle. The stock cap holding the bayonet lug is not cooperating....

Tried light tapping, it won't budge.

How do I get that to move/remove?

Thanks in advance

There is what looks like a rectangular piece of metal on the underside - tried pushing it in - might just be stuck - I'll give it another go

Thanks!

I use a small C-clamp to compress the spring so the band will slide off. It's a strong spring, they didn't want the band to pull off while the bayonet was in use.

when you do get around to pulling the barrel, put the bolt back in the action before tightening the receiver wrench so you don't crush the front ring. i've seen several 93 & 95's ruined from over tightening the receiver wrench.

if your not going to re-use the barrel i would also cut a relief groove about .030 in front of the receiver.
