I'm looking at a rifle that's supposed to have a parked finish and probably still does underneath (I think?). Someone tried some bluing and it looks purple. Anyway to remove the bluing to leave what's supposed to be park beneath?
I didn't find the answer in a short search I did.
TIA,

You cannot blue over parkerizing. Bluing isn't "applied" over another finish,it changes the color of the metal itself.

Was afraid of that. Thanks. The parts are ruined unless refinished.

You cannot blue over parkerizing

Sorry that's incorrect.
You can blue over a parkerized finish. It gives a very dark black finish.

It works best if you blue immediately after parkerizing and before any lubricant is applied to the parking.
However, if the parked finish is properly degreased as part of the standard bluing operation, yes you can blue over old parkerizing.

yes you can blue over old parkerizing.
I'm not going to argue with you df but I would have to see it. There is no way the technique I use (Brownell's Oxynate 7) would work. I can't see it happening.m

Here's the ugly truth we're talking about. I was hoping there was a way to eliminate the purpling and save the rifle.
