i have some lake city and black hills brass that have crimped primers, and was comparing it to the brass i got from midway, which has the crimp removed.....

it looks like i can just take the dremel and a stone and bevel out the primer pocket to take care of the problem.....

is it that easy??

Many companies (RCBS, Lyman etc) make a tool just for this purpose at nominal cost. Just put it in the primer pocket and twist and the crimp is gone. Quantrill

I use a Uni-bit in my cordless drill on small primers, it is the right taper and size. On large primers I use my pocketknife or a case chamfer tool.

I have used a case chamfering tool in the past, you just have to be careful and not take out too much brass around the primer pocket. I now use RCBS crimp removers, these are nice and bottom out in the primer pocket so you can't ream out too much brass.

Primer crimps

The standard tool that I call a Rocket is the inside outside neck reamer many companies have and is easy to mount in a hand drill or drill press and it will zip the crimps off and the nose has an automatic stop. It will not affect the sides of the primer pocket like the hand tools can and the Dremel tool can take metal off really fast. If you use a stone in the dremel it will clog up with the brass almost immediately.

Star reloader owners have their machine ignore the crimps as long as Federal or Winchester primers only are used.

I also havea Lachmiller and C-H primer pocket swaging die set but most reloaders already have the Rocket shaped trimmer.

I bought a dillon primer swager for $50 on ebay did about 10000 rounds of brass with it and then sold it again for what i paid for it.

If I was going to do military .308 or something I'd get the Dillon swager. Right now with my 9mm I have a metric s***ton of WCC NATO brass, If I hit resistance on the primer stroke I pull it out and give a quick once around with a loose drillbit I have on standby for just such a thing. I went and grabbed something big I never use out of the index like 13/32". Works like a charm.
