Removing rivited 700 extractor

I need to replace an extractor on one of my 700's, it's the riveted type. I've replace snap in extractors before, just never replaced a riveted one, so I'm not entirely sure how to remove the existing rivet. My only concern is getting the old rivet out without damaging, or rather, enlarging the hole.

Any suggestions from those who have first hand experience performing this repair is what I'm seeking.

I use a Dremel with a small carbide burr. The external side of the hole in the bolt is recessed to allow room for the river to be mushroomed. Remove the mushroomed part and drive out from OD of bolt with a small, short punch. Reinstallation is easier with a special tool available from Brownells or Midway but can be done with a couple of punches and three hands.
 
That's what I was expecting to do, is drive it out from the outside. The only problem is, it was perfectly lapped off, so I can't find any definitive lines showing the rivet. I'm thinking if I lightly tap on it with a punch from the inside, I might be able to move it just enough to expose the location on the outside. Other wise I'm going to have to measure and mark it's expected location, then begin with a punch and hope I hit the mark.

I have a product called spot check which is a dye penetrant to find hidden cracks in metal. It penetrates the crack then the excess is wiped off with solvent. It is visible where it soaks into the crack. Something like that would show the rivet location. I have seen hints about home brewed products that do the same but can't remember right off. Will do some research. I know that a nitric acid etch would show it but do you have any sitting around? Find a metallurgist or NDE tech, they would have either product.
 
I've heard the original dye check was kerosene and talcum powder. Put a drop of kerosene or maybe wd40 on the grond off end of the rivet, wait 10 minutes to soak into the joint, flush with gun scrubber and let air drive for a couple minutes, then dust with talcum powder. It should pull the lube out of the joint and show the od of the rivet.
 
I'm going to try the dye trick to see if it will expose the rivet. If not for the fact that I know the rivet actually goes through and through, I wouldn't believe it, based on how well it is lapped off.

I have yet one more question. Other than being careful not damage or expand the rivet channel, will a couple of surface dings present a problem on the outside of the bolt?
