Removing RKW finish on Rem. stock?!?

Anyone ever remove (or try to ) the RKW stock finish on a Remington stock? I hate the shine of it and would like to change to an oil finish.....or just get a new stock from Boyds ( which may be the easiest option). What ya think guys?

I would try wet sanding it with 400 black emery paper to knock off the shine.
Then follow with 0000 super-fine steel wool.

All the goodness of the sealed stock waterproof finish.
But without the glossy shine.

I used steel wool to take the shine off my 1100's. It is not like stripping down to the wood, but I am satisfied.

No need for abrasive paper. Just steel wool with kerosene. Careful not to remove all finish on sharp edges.
