I took the rust off the metal parts of my CETME sling, sanded, degreased with brake cleaner, washed with soap and water, cleaned them again with alcohol, dried them with a hair dryer, and painted them with a heat resistant black BBQ paint. I let them dry over 48 hours.
Then I decided :banghead: to put a light coat of oil on them to further protect them of any possibility of rusting. Well, the paint just started to come off - it became a crappy mess.
Is it that the paint was not the right kind?
Is it that it hadn't dried enough?
or what?
I did bake the one peice that would come off the sling for a little while but I'm afraid to put any oil on it for fear of messing it up too.
I thought about cold blueing but have not researched that yet and have no clue how to do it. But back to cheap old paint - can you and how would you make it resistant to gun oil n grease?
